What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were learning about pollination and bees so that fitted well with this kit. We have a school garden so we can watch them grow daily and they will remember this.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our seedlings havent grown into veggies yet or herbs. I loved the addition of herbs and borage. We have been learming about pollination so that fitted well having blue flower herbs.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This was the first time students had heard of pak choi, mizuna lettuce. It was interesting hearing if children ate these at home.
Room 9 loved this experience!!! They are a high energy class and loved planting the seeds. Every day they would rush into the classroom to see if the seeds had germinated. They learned lots of new vocabulary e.g germination, pricking out seedlings, compost… The seedlings have now been transplanted ready to go into our school garden. Its such a worthwhile activity. I would love to do it every year. The badges were a plus.

It is a great Kit and we love the resources in it as we had it last year. It tied perfectly to the unit that we were covering on the health model of Whare Tapa Wha and the Taha Tinana side about the body when we looked at healthy food and growing seeds. Unfortunately it seemed to arrive much later than what I had originally thought. There seemed a lot of "fanfare" but it was more towards the end of the term when we actually had the Kit in class and so I felt the element around growing seeds and using the plants in the kit was so late that children really had to watch this happen at home over the holidays.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We knew a few vegetables already but were able to look deeper into classifying different types and looked at how they each grew.
We enjoyed this kit. It wasn't what I expected but it was still fun. We loved learning about protect, grow, taste. My class was constantly on the look out for members and we even planted our seedlings in our very own school garden.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They are more keen to try the vegetables that they have had a hand in growing, and in growing more vegetables at home to share with their families. I would say this kit has had a big impact on healthy eating simply due to the exposure the children have ha
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? High impact. Many of them hadn't even heard of most of the vegetables. They were very excited to learn where popcorn comes from. Even some of our parents didn't know it grew like that.
The students were so excited about this kit. The secretive beginning really hooked their interest and it tied in well and built on our learning from term 3.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They understand food is fuel - we need it! From this, they understand that they can be successful in growing healthy foods so they don't have to always rely on the easy/snack foods.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students looked at them quite a bit at the beginning, but the names of each tapered off after that. They were fairly good with naming in the first place, so perhaps that's why I didn't see a massive difference.
My students were very excited about joining a secret club - the little extras such as the badges were a wonderful touch. The concept is simple but effective. They watched their Little Gardens grow with joy. I would have liked a more comprehensive resource guide to go along with the kit - I find the website a little confusing to understand and follow.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Yes we played some fun games together to help expand students vegetable knowledge. Some students said that they could now identify most of the fruits and vegetables when they went to the supermarket or market with their whanau.
The Little Garden Kit was a great resource, the students were able to learn the science around what seeds need to grow. My class really enjoyed the opportunity to have hands on experience at growing vegetables. We also reflected on the benefits of healthy eating and the importance of fuelling our body correctly.

Our students have loved this kit, the seeds germinated very quickly and students were able to take there plant home or put it in our classroom garden. As they began to grow we observed the different leaf shapes and sizes. We used an app as we were unsure what was a weed and what was a plant. We are looking forward to eating our pruducts.
