In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Hard to tell but they were very keen to take seedlings home to continue growing them. We didn't manage to taste any veges in class yet- next steps for us all.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Kids were keen to read the labels and stickers in the kit. We also used the booklet from New World as images in the grow kits are small. It would be good to get the booklet too.
The kit was excellent! My class was highly engaged and used the Little Gardens across many curriculum areas. We loved planting them, drawing them, measuring their growth, repotting and taking them home to continue to grow them on into the summer.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This activity provided a motivating context for language experience. It helped our young learners develop their oral language, vocabulary, and concept knowledge. They worked in groups and this helped them develop their social and emotional skills too.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We looked at the mathematics of rows and columns for planting. Measurement was used on each and every planting for spacing. We wished that we had made a rain gauge for last night's downpour but now we are thinking about how and where we could put one.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I am so pleased to hear the kids not speak of "good food and bad food" but looking and the health benefit of eating non processed foood and also not assuming everything would need a sauce or dressing for it to be paletable! This has been a joy to run thi
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We found that everyone had different experiences and levels of expertise. Some knew quite a bit from their family garden and previous experience with planting seedling. Most kids could identify the bean plants with ease as it is the classice science exper
This resource is fantastic. I had no trouble engaging the students in many different inquiries. One student investaged the benefits of borrage for our bees and the soil. We have looked at a few veggies we didnt know about - leek , daisun, white cabbage. A few favourites among the group was spinach( for their smoothie) and broccoli. They did ask why not strawberries and apples so that was another learning experience. We are presently studying healthy eating, exercise and being mindfull. Well- of course- gardening covers all of that!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We tied this in with our Litterless Lunchbox initiative. Therefore we did a lot of reflecting about what can be eaten from the garden versus bought in a packet from the supermarket.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Most children can identify most of the vegetables. The die hard vegetable haters will hopefully be won over one day!
Once again the kit entertained the children and made them feel special. It worked in perfectly with our Inquiry so I can't thank you enough. Receiving the badges was an added bonus for the children.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed what was healthy eating and discussed why could eat frequently. I didn't cover nutrition with them as it didn't link with our current inquiry.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It did have some impact and now most of them can identify a range of vegetables. Great discussion points - some of them we didn't even know were vegetables.
Again a fantastic resource especially for my year 1 learners. We didn't start it until term 4 as that was when it linked well to our inquiry "Change". The growing of these vegetables allowed children to not learn about the life cycle and what the plant needs but it also gave them responsibilities and what would happen if they didn't complete their responsibility.

The children loved the mystery of the mail box appearing in the class room. They were excited to plant the pots. Lots said they had done some at home and knew what to do. The code crackers have been fun and incorporated in our literacy time too.
