How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some... Some of the children that were really into it loved using the 'human names' for the plants... but some were just to abstract
In amongst a hectic period of time this was a great learning activity that the children were engaged in

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We ran this alongside garden to table in our learning, so we had had a big emphasis on where our food comes from and the health benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables so this supported the kids awareness and gave them an example of where the seeds start.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I think if we had paired the photos with real vegetable examples it would have helped. The kids knew quite a few of the vegetables but unsure if they would be able to recognise any new ones.
This resource had awesome resources and the back story got kids excited and created an excellent teaching platform.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was great to try new things as a class. The tamariki were able to give tasting a go in a friendly, no pressure situation.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Vege Patch Match was a great success in our class. Children are able to identify many vegetable simply from playing this game.
The tamariki loved this kit. It was so much fun creating our own clubhouse with our secret messages and handshake. The extra ideas offered were great to explore as well. We particularly enjoyed watching the time lapse videos and tamariki are still playing Vege Patch Match. It was exciting for the tamariki to watch the plants sprout out of the soil!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our LGL kit in definitely still a 'work in progress' as we only planted the seeds this term. Some children can't wait to take their seedling home and we will also plant other seedlings in our school garden, as well as repotting a few snow pea seedlings to
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We wll be working on this more in the coming weeks
My class has really enjoyed LGL, it is still 'in progress' as we are yet to plant the seedlings in our school garden and then taste the produce. But my class have loved the daily tasks of taking the trays out into the sun, watering them and then bringing them in again. They love taking responsibility for this task and had been so excited watching the seedlings grow and watch the roots break through the cardboard pots. With a few additional donations from parents we were able to do two plantings, the first didn't go as well due to children not listening or watching as I modelled how to add the water and place the seeds etc. We were then able to use this in literacy and exploring instructions and instructional writing. It was hilarious as I followed their exact 'instructions' which involved me 'putting water on top' i.e. I put I cup of water on top of the soil. It was a great learning experience and led to far better instruction writing. We have also been measuring growth and discussed the life cycle of plants. We will work more on healthy eating as the peas start to produce and we can eat then at fruit/veg break

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Maths - Students kept a diary, observed their plant and drew the changes in the seedlings growth everyday. They also used a ruler to measure the size of the plant.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Currently our inquiry theme is kaitiakitanga (guardianship) so our emphasis was on caring for the plants and giving them everything they needed to grow so our focus was not particularly on nutrition and healthy eating this time round.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Our school garden is full so the children took their seedlings home, once they had grown too big for the compostable pots and shared their plants with their families. The hope is they will plant in the family's garden and then actually get to eat the vege
The students really enjoyed the process of actually planting the seed and then caring for it while it germinated. It was something they could do independently after getting the instructions (they are only 5 years old) and inspired many of them to plant more vegetables with their families at home.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? more aware of vegetables and what you can do with them. Lots of cooking planned when veges mature.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Huge impact and on how they grow, see above comment.
Love this kit. Really gets the children enthusiastic about growing. We only started it at the beginning of term 4 but our plants are growing well. Children are very keen to see how they have grown each day. I really like the way the kit is presented, children love the codes and badges. Even though I teach rural kids, a lot of them don't know a lot about plants and growing vegetables. I was quite surprised. So there has been and will continue to be a lot of learning around this kit. Not all children are aware of how plants grow, watching the carrot grow underground was fascinating for a lot of them and we watched other clips as well. Thanks very much for an amazing kit.
