The kids were so excited and engaged to plant the little gardens. It tied in nicely with our topic of caring for our environment. I liked that the box had enough for one each plus some shared ones so everyone was able to take responsibility for their own. At the end of the term they took them home to continue caring for them.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think the experience of growing a plant and then being able to eat it at the end was something very novel that not a lot of the kids had fully experienced before and this was something they found a lot of joy in.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children already had pretty good knowledge of this. They did enjoy learning about the different herbs though.
My class were so excited by the prospect of having their own little garden to take care of! There were some plants that they had not heard of before and so they had a great time researching to find out what they were and also figuring out what recipes their plant was included in. The game was really cool and the children all really enjoyed playing it. We found the cardboard cut-out really hard to put together but also didn't need it to continue to enjoy the kit.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Tamariki discussed the vegetables, using phrases like 'this is healthy' or 'this is good for your body'.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Children enjoyed talking about the various seeds and what they enjoyed eating. There was discussion around things they liked, disliked and haven't tried.
Tamariki really enjoyed the process of adding water to the coconut fibre and watching it expand. They eagerly watched their plants grow and had great discussions around the different vegetables. The materials provided in the kit were useful.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? So many kids didn't know the names of the vegetables they were planting. Our plants were only planted a couple of weeks ago so they aren't fully grown yet. But once they are it will be exciting to get to try some new vegetables!
The kids have loved planting their little garden pots. They were so excited about this kit and learnt a lot about plants and their structures.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Plant to table- understanding the source of where food comes from is an exciting concept for 5 year olds. It makes food so much more interesting if you know where it comes from.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A great impact- the children loved the poster of vegetables and often referred to it.
My class loved this kit- all of the resources were at an appropriate level (Year 1) and we planted the seedlings with our senior buddy class which worked well.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have an increased awareness and can explain why it is important to eat ‘healthy foods’ .
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Promoted lots of talking about vegetables and with this reinforcing their knowledge of vegetables.
The children were really excited about the kit and especially enjoyed looking after their seedlings and learning about the growing process.
