What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Lots of measuring as the seedlings grew. A great conversation about time and how long it would take too!

Awesome! My 5 year olds loved planing these and the idea that they were in a club. Great quality seeds and they all have some greeting at home now. Thank you for making it fun!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Building knowledge about a range of vegetables and talking about finding balance on our plates
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children are now able to talk about a massive range of vegetables and articulate the ones they are keen to grow. They also talk more openly about which Little Garden's they have at home.
The children in my class loved planting and engaging with the Little Gardens. They even wanted to bring in their plants from home and make our collection bigger.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? A lot of the vegetables were unknown to some children so a good way to expose different types of vegetables to children.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They absolutely loved the matching game. That has become a fixed feature of our reading rotation games.
The kit was really well received by the class. The children loved planting the little gardens and watching them grow. We have done a bit of planting for the school garden and the children were wondering what makes these ones grow so fast and I wasn’t sure of the answer! The badges were a great touch it made them feel invested in the Little Garden League. We ended up extending our learning by researching what kind of climate we live In and what plants might need some Extra help outside, so made some Little plastic bottle hot houses as well. Was fun, am wondering if anything has been added to make them Fast growing?

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It encouraged the children to learn the vegetables; take care of their plants and be willing to try and taste them.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? There were very only a few children who knows most of the vegetables. It did create awareness of a variety of unfamiliar vegetables.
The class had a nice exploration and learning about how seeds germinate. We also learned about parts of the plant and how to take care of plants. The students also had fun waiting and measuring plant growth. The kit was enough for one class. Some seeds did not sprout. It would be greatly appreciated if there were some more things (planting things such as a plastic trowel and a small watering can) to make the experience more authentic.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We did lots of writing about the little garden league and what we were learning in class about vegetables. We read and researched certain vegetables and herbs. We did some measurement when thinking about where to plant the seedlings and how tall some of t

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It got us talking about all the vegetables we have tried and what we did/did not like. Being able to have a discussion and in a way that isn't pressurised (e.g. they are not being told they have to eat it) meant that students could make connections to oth
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? More students are able to name the vegetables we grew than they could before starting this learning. One of the highlights has been learning the maori names for common vegetables.
We loved the little garden league kit! The story behind the little garden league was a really effective hook in for the students. I wondered if they would connect to the story as lots of them had been exposed to the little gardens before however their prior knowledge about it made their excitement and interest even stronger. We had great fun planting the seeds and this led into some great learning around what plants need to grow and thrive. We explored the different kinds of plants/food that would grow and this encouraged everyone to think about what healthy foods they love and how they make our bodies feel.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Linked well to our Enviroschool principles. Linked well to our inquiry learning and how historically groups of people in NZ & Maori lived off the land.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students continue to be able to TALK about being healthy -does not always equate to what they are eating as they aren't the ones packing their lunchboxes or paying for the groceries. Lots of talk had about the types of healthy veggies they DO like though
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Little impact -the edible flowers were of interest but most students already knew the common veggies.
Kit was great as usual but was missing elements that arrived later (no message/note to say these would be missing nor that they would arrive so we scrounged from a neighbouring class so we could begin our unit of work at the same time as colleagues' classes. The trays that came with the previous year's kit were so handy -be good to have included again in future. Students fully engage with the learning around the Little Garden League and plants. As an Enviroschool this kit always fits in beautifully with our values too. As kits arrived and were used before the school holidays, many plants began to sprout but did not survive the break if they were left at school! These suckers (literally) suck up lots of water hence the tray from previous years being handy when junior kids are doing the generous watering!
