This is a great cross-curricular kit. Excellent resources are provided for a hands on experience that engages all students and encourages them to be passionate Kaitiaki! We used with our year 1-2 and it engaged all students, they loved the idea of being in a secret club and receiving a badge for their efforts.

My class absolutely loved this kit. They were so enthusiastic in planting and looking after their seeds. Some even got quite competitive about it We learnt heaps of new information about vegetables, with many trying new ones and being surprised that they liked them! It was also great to see them sharing this learning with their whanau - inspiring whanau to grow their own verges at home.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We looked at life cycles of seeds and used this for the basis of our writing as well - great opportunity to teach diagrams and labels. Linked to Math - measurement - tracking of how/when seeds sprouted and how much they grew each week.

A lot of our students are provided nutritious lunches by their families - this unit though, helped the students to understand why this was important - it gave them a greater awareness of the importance of healthy eating.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Very interesting to see what vegetables children were aware of at the start! Games and activities were engaging and most were able to identify all vegetables by the end.
A fabulous and engaging kit. Slotted perfectly alongside our Garden to Table programme.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were more aware of the vegetables and wanting to grow them for them to be able to eat. Many of them wanted to be growing more than one vegetable especially after learning about all the other vegetables included in the pack.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A lot- many knew of the vegetables but didn't understand all the uses for them and what herbs are for. From this students are more aware and have more knowledge around these particular vegetables.
My students loved being able to grow their own vegetables. Many of the students had seen these little garden plants prior to this school kit as we are in close proximity to New World. They learned some vegetables/ herbs that they had no prior knowledge before this learning. Every day that we had school the students would be in looking at how much their plants had grown compared to when they were last checked and also identifying what plants are taking longer to grow than others. This was a great feature in Room9 and the kids loved it!
