How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I was amazed that some kids didn't even know some basic vegetable names this kit highlighted the need for more oral language.
I am from a small Kura and this kit was used with all of the children from years 1-8 all of the students were excited to learn about plants, gardening caring for their seedling and of course watching them grow. The students were excited to take their seedlings home for the holidays and to add to or start their garden at home. I think if we had more time in the term we would do more tasting of different vegetables We did try some fruits and learning how to cook them in different ways. The kids enjoyed playing the card game too. It was a shame the badges didnt arrive in time but that cant be helped :)

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children enjoyed the games which I think helped them. They probably needed to see the end result of their vegetables to identify them.
I found it hard to follow the plan for the unit, the resources seemed to be scattered on the website and this made it less likely I would use them. I also had trouble printing some of them, as there were fonts that wouldn't print, even from the PDF.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? For their age, the students did well as a collective to learn the majority of the vegetables. It was great to see different students sharing their knowledge based on vegetable exposure and sometimes cultural preference.
The Little Garden collection and activities were very well loved by all of my 5-6yr olds. It was a great initiative in exposing these young students to a variety of vegetables and they loved the experience of planting their seeds and then seeing them sprout and grow to them be transplanted into our bigger school garden. There is something about being part of the growing process that not only excites and fosters ownership, but also means they are more keen to try the final product. We used our Tuakana teina from our buddy class to help us with the planting which was a positive bonding and learning experience.
