In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have enjoyed that it is their work that is producing the vegetables - it has linked well to our KEGs programme - soon hopefully we will be harvesting and cooking/baking with our produce.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This is new for many of my students - they are more aware when the vegetable is grown and looks like the vegetable the family buys at the supermarket.
We are still working with the kit in term 4 as we didn't get started until the last few weeks of term 3. We are now at the planting stage and the children are also working this in with our KEGs programme in our school gardens on a Tuesday.

This kit was an amazing resource for engagin my students. My students saw the displa I set up with the fantastic resources you sent through and they were instantly curious and wanting to know what it was all about. They enjoyed signing up to the club and then planting their seeds. Every day the children would rush into school to see how they had grown and were excited to share the progress with whaanau. Another highlight was when the badges arrived and we had a little ceremony to hand them out. There were some very excited children.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I used opinion writing to help my students try new veges, they could then write about whether or not they liked the vege and why they did or didn't like it, some decided they like cooked veges more than raw
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? My students didn't know very many veges at all! they have gained a lot of knowledge and have tasted a few new veges that they hadn't tried before
My year 1, 2 and 3 class loved this resource, we have our little gardens growing on the window sills in our classroom waiting for the right time to plant them outside in our class garden boxes. As part of our literacy rotation my students did an observational drawing of a different seedling each day and wrote what they could see, the used rulers to measure the plants growth and were able to discuss how much a plant had grown over night! Our class looks like a little greenhouse!

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? There was some excellent conversation around the different vegetables. We have a fruit and vege eating time each morning, and we were able to talk about the food in their lunch boxes and the plants that were growing on the windowsill.
The kit was great fun and very engaging with the badges and club to belong to. Each child was able to have their own plant, which was excellent.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It has definitely improved. I'm also surprised at how many students actually have already tried different fruit and vegetables.
Room 12 have loved being ambassadors, leading the way and encouraging others to grow and look after plants and try new foods especially vegetables and fruits. They responded very positively to the badges, secret messages and role of caretakers of our little gardens. We had a writing focus so actually wrote a letter to apply as well as writing a letter of thanks to our local New World for sponsoring the LGL kit.
