In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has made kids want to plant their very own veges at home, grow them, and then be able to share their produce with their family’s! It allows them to understand healthy foods as well as it being more economically friendly.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A lot, having the pictures, looking at the seeds and then being able to do some more in depth factual research help the kids identify and make connections to where they have seen these plants before etc.
The Little Garden Kit was a great term 3 topic project! I have a new entrant class that is filled with mostly boys so being able to get hands on in planting seeds, learning about how to care for plants as well as watching them grow was something really special for these kids! There were enough seeds for all class members, plus more! They loved being able to have a badge to represent their learning. They enjoyed writing letters and learning about new information about their plants as well. We had them at school till the end of term then the kids took them home to share with their family’s to continue to nurture and care for them, giving them some home responsibilities.

A great concept and idea for a kit, however there was a lot in here for a class of NE/Yr 1. It took alot of teacher direction, doing and input to make it work. Children weren't able to just run it on their own.

This kit tied in with us weeding and refreshing our garden area outside. Students were fully engaged with the growing of the plants. They were interested in how plants grow - this tied in with the club motto. Unfortunately, sickness didn't allow us to use this kit to its fullest potential but students were engaged in the activities that we completed.
