In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I had a number of students say they would ask mum or dad if they could buy a certain vegetable as they had not eaten them before which was great!
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many of the students had not heard of some of the vegetables and even more had not eaten them.
The last time we did the Little Gardens we got a tray to keep all the plants in and this was missed. I found some things difficult to find e.g. we wanted to find out what the secret message was but had a hard time finding the key (we didn't receive our badges, which had the code on them, until the last day of term 3 when the unit was over).

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This provided the students information on vegetables they had never heard of in a fun and engaging way. They are excited to try these vegetables once they are ready to eat.
This was a fantastic kit! The students absolutely loved taking ownership of their plants and learning about what they were growing. The pledge to do everything for the little garden and protect, grow and share information with others about their plants was great and they excitedly told their siblings and parents about what they had got up to during school.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? they were able to tell apart the common things like onions, carrots and beetroot. They have tried to work out all the greens and all the herbs, which was exciting.
The children enjoyed each aspect of the kit all the way from the banners to the seeds. It was a very interactive and well complied kit; it made the teaching very smooth. Overall, the entire experience was very educational, engaging and mesmerizing. A big thank you to the people that sponsored, compiled and posted the kit.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Healthy Eating and Nutrition has always part of our curriculum and us as staff have been very proactive in establishing healthy eating and the benefits of nutrition in their daily lives. Most tamariki are very aware of fruit and vegetables, some eat these
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The kit provided opportunities to talk about what they already knew, what they had tasted and eaten prior to the toollit, predicting what their Little Gardens might be and talking about vegetables, flowers and herbs they were aware of and becoming aware o
The toolkit was a huge success in Room 10 which consists of Year 2 and 3 age groups. The tamariki were very much engaged from the beginning and all took part in each process. Because Kawerau South School was immersed in a new programme learning how to tend to gardens and learning to use tools for planting new plants, this toolkit was especially pertinent to our curriculum.

There are a lot more carrots in their school lunches and there has been less packaged food in their morning tea boxes. The Little Garden Kit is always a huge success! Vege Patch Match was a huge hit with my class and has helped them learn so many new vegetables. The Spotify Playlist was also a welcome addition, with students happily singing along and wanting to dance too. Students loved planting their own seeds and keeping track using the stickers. They liked that they had to fill out a letter to apply to be in a secret club. The idea of the club being secret made them love it, even though it was about vegetables! The banner also helped to make an effective display. I would have loved to have a set-up included for the plants rather than the letterbox. The letterbox was very difficult to cut out of the cardboard, and once it had been created, it had to be broken in order to get the letters out. The brown poster of the vegetables was not helpful in getting students to learn the vegetables. Students were very stuck with Vege Patch Match at first as they struggled to identify the vegetable on the poster because the poster was all brown and too small. What would have been a fabulous addition was the $2 Activity Books New World was selling of all the characters - I purchased one of these, and students absolutely loved it! Learning the vegetables was much easier with a big coloured picture to use as an aid. I definitely recommend including this activity book in the kit next time, or better yet, including one for each student.
