In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our tamariki are well educated by their parents but it was lovely to see so many tamariki with vegetables being their fav thing to eat.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Lots and lots of children learnt the difference between cabbage, spinach and lettuce. They couldn't identify them prior.

“The kit and app set up was easy to use and successful. The children were excited by the characters related to the vegetables, which sparked lots of conversation and touch real life plants. As a teacher, I was able to deliver 4 weeks of science learning/tasks around plants, plant structure, seeds, growth, troubleshooting growing plants, plant food and care, and healthy food. We learnt about traditional Māori garden tools, kaitiaki papatūānuku, whenua and huawhenua. The resources were so useful online. We were able to learn from online learning and from communication using the app. We all value this kit so much.”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has been great to see and learn more about how vegetables grow, and how long it takes for the seeds to produce flowers/fruit. We have learnt a big lesson in patience.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? My students really enjoyed playing vegie patch match and got quite competitive. I also created a digital quiz using Blooket that my class loved playing to learn the names of all of the vegie characters.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Being a new entrants classroom, the students understood that veggies were healthy but looking at their lunchboxes they didn't have much influence over their parents choices at the grocery shop!!

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The students were able to recognise basic vegetables so it was great to introduce them to other that they then talked to their families about.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The majority of our children already had a strong understanding and awareness of eating fresh food from our school garden and vege growing and eating "garden to table" at home. The little garden kit reinforced those ideas.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some children learned some new vegetables. The vegetables as characters added an extra element - adding interest and appeal - and so engagement was high. The children loved the vegetable character names.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This led into my class' science topic learning really well. We have been learning about the Living world and what living things need to grow and thrive. We also did some art around this.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit improved and consolidated their awareness as we had learnt about healthy eating earlier in the year. I think it would've been more beneficial if it was being taught at the same time. Something for me to reflect on for next year.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was great to see my student's prior knowledge of vegetables and they really enjoyed the matching/memory game. They were sometimes confused on what a vegetable was when the pictures/characters looked different.

“My class enjoyed learning new things in a different way and were so excited to see the plants progress everyday. They enjoyed the hands-on element of it and the story introducing the kit as well. As the teacher I did find the online element of the teaching material less accessible than last time, but was able to refer back it whenever which was nice. Thanks School Kit!”

To lead in to school ready to read books like "growing pumpkins." We used the garden match cards in maths to count how many cards each person had and to estimate how many of each vege

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It made an impact, but also made us as teachers realise that many of the children couldn't identify the vegetables and so we spent more time introducing the class to these.
