In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As a school we already promote healthy and package free lunchboxes so I feel the children already have a pretty good knowledge about the importance of healthy eating. However, we will continue to build on this during our Garden to Table lessons.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Most of the children already had a good knowledge of different vegetables.
The kids were super excited to get this kit and really enjoyed planting the seeds. After doing this we had a discussion on predicting when the first seeds would germinate, which seeds would germinate first (species/seed size etc) and why they thought this. This produced some amazing thinking. At the end of term the majority of the children decided to take their seedlings home to plant in their home vegetable gardens. We planted the remainder in the school gardens which, in time, will be used for Garden to Table, though not necessarily by our class. I didn't make the clubhouse as I felt it was more suited to younger children than Year 4's. Thanks you School Kit and New World for another amazing kit! And thank you for encouraging us to engage in the kit in our own way to best suit our students.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We have done writing, I created a bio sheet where they recorded the information from the tag about their plant (name, Māori name, scientific name, germination etc) and they wrote a definition of what they understand germination, repotting, and harvest to

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? More to come after the school holidays. One of their holiday tasks is to taste their verge (if they can get an adult to buy it for them) and find/share a recipe using their vegetable. We did a vege tasting session, I bought broccoli, cauliflower, carrots,
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was great playing vege patch match, this has been a hit! They have had to identify the different veges in the game. We did a huge brainstorm of veges for our test (5 veges you have tried and a rating) and this led to some interesting conversations aro
It is so cool to be given this awesome resource and I think that School Kit gives us LOTS of things to make it fun and engaging, what would be helpful would be information about how it links to the NZ Curriculum and suggested WALTs/ SC across a few curriculum areas. I appreciate that this might not be provided deliberately as it gives us teachers the chance to take it in whatever direction we like but some guidance might be helpful and then if we want to take it in another direction, we could. I wonder if Twinkl could be collaborated with to make some resources that teachers could access in relation to the Little Garden League? The badges seem to have held up better this year than they did on a previous use of this kit, when they all fell apart.

I introduce this project to my JNR class in term 3 but we will carry on in term 4. My aakonga love gardening and enjoyed touching and exploring the resources provided. We planted and have grown a few seeds which we then replanted into our class garden just before the holidays. We will be back into planting some more when we return after the break. I learnt from this I will need additional support from our tuakana class as seeds and labels ended getting mixed up with everyone so keen, Lesson learnt lol. This will fit nicely with our inquiry on healthy eating next term.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Again something we will work further on in Term 4, but children were talking about what vegetables they liked and what they had in their lunchbox. I will set up some class challenges next term to see if we can get more children to have veges in their lunc
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This is something we will continue to work on in Term 4, however the spot the vegetable game has meant that many children are recognising more vegetables/herbs.
My class loved this kit and all were successful in growing their vegetables and herbs. They were fascinated to see the roots growing out the bottom of the jiffy pots and this made for an interesting discussion when the roots had grown more than the plant at one stage. We will carry on with it in Term 4 and maybe grow some other plants and decorate terracotta pots to go along with it.
