The children loved being in a gardening club. This kit was wonderful.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Writing- instructions for growing, instructions for cooking, writing about how long they think it would take to grow. Maths- arrays, multiplication and division, measuring water and soil.

The children loved the kits and building on their understanding of growing things from seeds, the time difference it is for different seeds. The children brought a lot of their writing time into this by writing about why they would make a good gardener, instructions for looking after plants,

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit enabled our tamariki to learn about some vegetables they were unfamiliar with. We enjoy fresh healthy lunches each day so we have me spoken about healthy food and nutrition prior to receiving the kit.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some of my year 1 and 2s could remember and identify a few vegetables.
This was such a fun kit to use. We received our kit quiet late in term 3 so decided to wait for term 4. Thank you for sharing a fun and educational kit to share and hopefully grow the love of planting Kai and eating more vegetables.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Integrated into writing by researching vegetables and their properties. Used in maths and measurement, graphing, using rulers.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We get lunches provided with fresh vegetables. It was great for the kids to see how these vegetables start off as tiny seedlings.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was a great way to introduce new vegetables and discuss their properties from new growth to fruiting.
The kids loved the hands on aspect and real time growing of the seeds. They were so engaged when learning all the new vegetables and herbs they had never heard of. The game was a big hit, as were the badges and letters/letterbox.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The children learned lots of new vocabulary and they loved writing about planting their seed. Lots of oral language about the process of germination, what plants need to grow, different types of vegetables and where our food comes form.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are more aware of where vegetables come from and why they are good for us. They loved growing their own vegetables which will hopefully encourage them to try them once they are ready for eating.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It provided a fun and interactive way of learning about different types of vegetables and broadened their knowledge of different vegetables past the usual carrots, potatoes and peas.
This is a fantastic kit and so much learning took place. We planted the seeds with our tuakana-teina and the children loved watching them grow and looking after them. We learned lots of new vocabulary throughout the unit as well as knowledge about vegetables and healthy eating.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some for those but most students knew what they were
My Year 2/3 class loved planting their seeds. We incorporated it into our writing programme. They also loved writing their vegetable jokes. We engaged our Tuakana teina relationships by getting the class to teach the Year 0/1 how to fold their origami letter.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lots of great discussion about balanced nutrition and some students were introduced to new veggies they hadn't tried before.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Discussion about herbs, fruit and vegetables and identification.
The class really enjoyed watching the plants grow. It instigated lots of interesting questions about life cycles.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were keen to try different herbs. They were very interested in the popcorn plant. And we tried different 'plant' sandwiches.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students can now label and identify more vegetables.
Great kit that tied in with our inquiry learning about water and why plants need water. Students liked being able to try eating new things and learnt more about how plants grow. The other resources that went with the kit were very well thought out.
