In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We get lunches provided with fresh vegetables. It was great for the kids to see how these vegetables start off as tiny seedlings.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was a great way to introduce new vegetables and discuss their properties from new growth to fruiting.
The kids loved the hands on aspect and real time growing of the seeds. They were so engaged when learning all the new vegetables and herbs they had never heard of. The game was a big hit, as were the badges and letters/letterbox.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lots of great discussion about balanced nutrition and some students were introduced to new veggies they hadn't tried before.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Discussion about herbs, fruit and vegetables and identification.
The class really enjoyed watching the plants grow. It instigated lots of interesting questions about life cycles.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We wrote about our planting and completed science andxart activities around the kit. We also went onto grow some other seeds and set up a 'shop' with posters etc.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? they were fascinated to learn what different vegerable look like as they grow. They were sure what vegetable pop corn was!
My class just loved the planting. They were all fascinated by the way the soil expanded and we had an amazing afternoon planting. Every day we monitored for signs of growth and eventually theymade it into our school garden. We were able to connect the kit to our learning around the Atua and planting native grasses in our local area. Thanks for another great kit.

My Year 2/3 class loved planting their seeds. We incorporated it into our writing programme. They also loved writing their vegetable jokes. We engaged our Tuakana teina relationships by getting the class to teach the Year 0/1 how to fold their origami letter.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The children learned lots of new vocabulary and they loved writing about planting their seed. Lots of oral language about the process of germination, what plants need to grow, different types of vegetables and where our food comes form.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are more aware of where vegetables come from and why they are good for us. They loved growing their own vegetables which will hopefully encourage them to try them once they are ready for eating.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It provided a fun and interactive way of learning about different types of vegetables and broadened their knowledge of different vegetables past the usual carrots, potatoes and peas.
This is a fantastic kit and so much learning took place. We planted the seeds with our tuakana-teina and the children loved watching them grow and looking after them. We learned lots of new vocabulary throughout the unit as well as knowledge about vegetables and healthy eating.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We made some predictions about the outcome we might get and later on got the ruler out to measure how tall our plants had grown and did a statistical investigation to see the differences from early on to end of term development.

This built connections with what the children were already invested in and was the perfect opportunity to deepen their thinking on healthy eating.We also visited our school garden to sh
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was great to introduce the children to veggies they were unfamiliar with. This led to some interesting discussions and provocations to extend their knowledge base. The children enjoyed the memory game included.
What a great kit! The children loved learning how to grow their own special veggie. It was wonderful to see them arrive in the morning and immediately go to check on the gardens progress!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had class discussions on nutrition referring to the garden and how plants are necessary to maintain physical and mental health-growing the plants was a mindful activity!
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students learnt the names for a variety of veges and herbs and drew pictures of leaves and fruit as identifiers. They created their own picture dictionaries.
My tamariki were super excited to get growing. many of them hadn't ever gron a seedling so we watched with lots of anticipation as the first sprouts appeared. There was so much around oral language that we were able to tap into for our ESOL students, rich language and we even learnt names in other languages for plants and growing.
