In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Many became aware of the benefits of healthy eating.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This kit made a huge impact on my students' ability to identify vegetables. They were able to use their other senses and imagination in recognizing plants.
Little Garden League Feedback Gardening for my students who are visually impaired or blind encourages the exploration of the environment using the senses of touch, smell, hearing, and taste. Gardening enhances these young gardeners' participation in their families and community and enriches their personal lives by helping them gain firsthand experiences through the use of their remaining senses and in the tending and nurturing of a living thing. They can establish a relationship with the plants and animals in their garden or yard that, in turn, helps them to better understand their place in the world. While engaged in digging, weeding, watering, trimming, and caring for plants, young visually impaired, blind, or multi-impaired gardeners can improve their levels of cognitive development, expand their attention spans, and decrease the level of stress and anxiety in their lives. This helps to diminish aggressiveness. This Little Garden League Kit fits perfectly with our topic, There is no Planet B and with our end-of-year presentation, the Lorax which taught us how to respect the environment and all the living creatures that will help us preserve the planet for ourselves and future generations. Through the Little Garden League, our class learned about Plants. 1) What Does a Plant Need? 2) What Do Plants Need? 3) What Affects Plant Growth? 4) Parts of a Plant 5) Parts of a Seed 6) How Do Seeds Get Planted By Nature and Seeds Planted By Us? 7) Seeds, Fruit and Plants 8) Plant Parts We Eat 9) Plant Life Cycle 10) Pumpkin Life Cycle 11) Life Cycle of a Carrot 12) Life Cycle of Corn 13) What is Photosynthesis? and 14) Germinating Seeds. The students also enjoyed the Vege Patch Match, Little Garden League origin story, earning a membership certificate, secret member-only code, and of course, the badges! Little Garden League was our class Science project this Term 4, 2022. We were lucky to be given the kit for free. We are grateful to the sponsors of this lovely resource! Through the kit, I was able to provide my students who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision, including those with additional disabilities plenty of opportunities to learn about plants. We all loved and got excited to see the plants grow each day. My students will go home next week with the plants that we grew from our science project ready to be planted in their gardens. We cannot wait to harvest these vegetables. Once again, many thanks for the fantastic Little Garden League Kit. We learned a lot from it.
