In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We enjoyed tasting the vegetables and looking up recipes that included our Little Garden plants. Students went away and tried these vegetables at home and cooked healthy meals for their families for homework.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They can now identify all vegetables in the pack.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It definitely exposed the children to a wider group of vegetables with a lot of children learning about new vegetables.

“The Little garden league engaged all students from the beginning with the delivery of the mystery box. The unique characters for each pot was a highlight as the children were excited to learn about their plant. It was very easy to use and the children were able to set it up themselves. We liked the compostable pots and how the children were able to transfer them to bigger pots before they went home,”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? AS stated above, this was a very language rich learning reource for our ESL students which comprises 40% of our class. I feel they learned not only about vegetables and nutrition, but also the science of how things grow, and more of our kiwi culture.

“My children loved growing their seed into seedlings. We found it especailly beneficial for our ESL students as it gave lots of opportunities to learn new vocabulary. Our students were so excited to finally take their seedlings home to plant and we are looking forward to them sharing their progress on our digital platform. “This is one of my favourite school kits !! We always extend the tasting by doing lots of investigations into how the veg is grown, which part we eat (leaf, stem, root etc) and then investigate the ways to eat it - raw or cooked. Growing seeds in a jar was a highlight - especially red kidney beans and popcorn kernels. Love doing the codes - we get our yr0-1 buddied up with our older children and they work on it together. Such awesome learning!”

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? they were able to identify many more vegetables at the end than the start and they could recognise some of them from their stickers

“The kids loved watching the plants grow - it was awesome to have a variety of plants as this provided us with new language as they grew - some people had tall skinny leaves and some people had little round leaves. Some plants grew fast and some took a while to get started ... but it all gave us great vocabulary around plants and growing.”

“Once again, this kit did not disappoint. The children loved the build up and learning about the founding members. The Code Crackers really helped and got everyone involved in the mission. We started off by becoming LGL members and receiving our special badges. The class loved planting all the seedlings and watching them grow over time. We even planted extra bean seeds and observed what happened. The vege patch match game was so much fun, too! The overall message of 'Grow, Protect, Taste' is really well planned and allowed the perfect inquiry for the children. The tasting of different vegetables was loved by everyone - they all gave everything a try and all tasted at least one they'd never tried before! The writing that came from this kit was also amazing - the children chose one of the characters to focus on. They completed descriptions and built little personalities about the different characters. This kit was great - thank you for the opportunity to share this with my class.”
