In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were more willing to taste the veg because they were involved with seeing it grow, which elevated their curiosity.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This was a little tricky for some 5yr olds.
Great to have different veggies to grow, the popcorn generated much excitement! It's so cool how the children get to see how and where they get their food from. Also, provides the opportunity for them to try new tastes.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I try to be careful about not being judgmental about what is in the children's lunchboxes or what they eat at home because you really never know or understand individual family circumstances. However what we did really explore and enjoyed was being advent

I was surprised by how few vegetables some the the children knew but it also prompted conversations around vegetable names in other languages and different types of vegetables from around the world. We also learnt the name of all the vegetables in Te Reo
Rm22 loved this theme! The idea of them being vegetable protectors engaged them really quickly. We grew the seeds in our classroom, under different conditions and then planted the seedlings in our school veggie patch which are now on their way to be fully grown vegetables. The vegetable theme interested them so much that we made scone based pizzas and tried new vegeatbles as toppings that we had never tried before, everyone brought a vegetable in from home and collectivly we chopped and diced. It was a really fun day. As a teacher, I loved the card game that was included - the kids knew how to play it immdieatly as it's a bit like spot it & they really enjoy that. The little cardboard house was a huge hit and when the badges arrived the kids were beyond excited.

Some students were going home and asking if they could make a little garden at home or have a small space of an existing garden. They know that our bodies need a lot of fibre and vegetables can provide this. They knew that Silverbeet and Kale could help w
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The game allowed discussions around vegetables and what texture, colour size and shape they could relate to each little garden.
My class enjoyed being part of a 'secret club'. They enjoyed caring for their little 'Little Garden' as individuals and as a class. Some students would make a predictions as to whose Little Garden would have grown the most or the least. There was a high level of engagement and a lot of discussions. Our school grows some vegetables and the class talked about what was in the school garden (mostly silverbeet and kale!) and they talked about being healthy with vegetables and fruit.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Trying new things is often challenging but our learners were excited to because they were growing the items too! We create a rainbow tasting platter to try and the kids loved it.

WOW - this kits was so much fun. The little band of Eco Warriors in out hub loved the practice nature. Sowing seeds, caring for them, watering, planting and now harvesting provided a full circle of learning.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I had quite a few students share things like "I like it when I get to pack my own lunch because I put in healthy stuff like raw broccoli".
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Luckily most of the students in my class had quite a high knowledge of vegetables. Maybe that could be due to being a rural school a lot of families have the space to grow their own vegetables.
I misunderstood the initial instructions and therefore did not recieve this kit until quite late. Therefore I started the kit term 4 so I did not have to try and keep plants alive over the term 3 holiday break. My students really engaged with this kit and growing things.
