My students were super engaged in with this kit. The resources provided relevant real learning for my tamariki. They were so proud of their badges and a few of my students came to school telling us that their siblings had also been little garden league members in the past. We found out that the majority of the class had gardens at home or at their grandparents homes. We extended the unit by incorporating why bees are important for our environment. Thank you School Kit and New World for this fantastic resource once again.

Kids loved the hands-on experience and seeing the plants germinate was really exciting. Heaps of fun and lots of learning at the same time. They learnt so much about different vegetables and it was perfect for us developing our school garden. Great unit!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to weave elements of this kit in to literacy and numeracy. We also did some learning about parts of plants, what they need to survive, etc.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Very minimal. Students still reluctant to try new foods and not particularly interested in increasing their fruit/veg intake.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Minimal. Some students engaged with the character names of the vegetables, but most showed little interest.
Students enjoyed the planting/growing, but their interest waned quickly beyond that. Some of the materials were too hard for the children to engage with (year 3) and therefore the excitement that could have been built, was unfortunately unsuccessful.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students were engaged and this sparked the desire to want to grow more vegetables at home especially knowing that food is expensive and it is rewarding growning and eating your own produce. High student engagement!!!
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? All of them were engaged, asking if there were more that they could take home to grow.... The students new most of the vegetables and were surprised there was a popcorn one (this caused a bit of dilema as everyone wanted a popcorn plant).... Year 2's :-)
Apologies for the delay (I only started this a few weeks ago, due to ERO visit and lots on at school. Children really enjoyed this (growing kit and badges)
