In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This unit helped students understand the 'why' around eating the rainbow and encouraged them to consider their own diets. Maybe they have tried new things at home as a result!

I imagine this would have been great had myself and my child not gotten covid and had 2 weeks off (split class/no receivers) - many seedlings didn't make it. Students did learn a lot through the initial theory & build up though this is just based on obs d
This was an incredible experience for my tamariki! They loved sowing the seeds and caring for them. The names i te reo Māori were really helpful and an incredible way of authenticating and weaving through concepts that relate to te ao Māori and the work we are doing around the new Aotearoa Histories curriculum. What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We have been learning about healthy eating as part of our health curriculum and the LGL kit has supported this hugely! The children also picked a vegetable to learn about and then we had a mini vegetable fair (like a science fair!) to share and show off o

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have been bringing more veges in their lunchboxes - soooo many carrot sticks! And parents have told is that their children showed a much increased willingness to try new foods at dinnertime.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? For all of our children there were vegetables that they didn't recognise, so whilst there are still some gaps, many have been filled in.
We loved this kit! It was so much fun, with secret codes, and letters from various vegetables! The children were really great at planting the seeds and then looking after our seedlings. They learnt so much about different veges and what you can do with them (beetroot cake, vege and cheese muffins...) Plus it was so much fun spotting other secret members with their badges, the principal munching a carrot or an RTLB who had a stick of asparagus hanging out of her handbag!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We added measurement so students could see the growth of their plant over time. We look at graphing this information. We also did observational drawing of our plants over time.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were motivated to learn more, especially when the had a tasting session of different vegetables - we also experimented with how to make 'yucky' vegetables more yummy.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This helped a lot as some students were not aware of the huge variety of plants that we have.
Great idea. The kids were very motivated to learn more about the plants that they had. There was great excitement to see their plants grow. We have replanted them in out school garden and can't wait to see the final results.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some parents reported improved eating habits and more open minded attitudes towards trying new vegetables.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Plants went home before vegetable had grown but they did enjoy using the card game which helped with vege identification.
The kids my class loved this kit. They have had varying levels of success with their vegetables. Some parents have reported that their children have tried new vegetable because they grew them.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The kit was very useful as part of our unit about growing seeds and the parts of a plant.
How successful was this kit in building student recognition of vegetables?
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children all took home some vegetable plants that had germinated at school. It's hoped that they would get planted by the children or their parents & further inspire them to have vegetables growing at home.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some children had a good knowledge already about vegetable names while others could only name a few common ones like carrots & tomatoes. A tasting session would've been useful to extend their knowledge further.
The kit itself was excellent with everything included. The badges were a big hit. The card game was difficult for the younger children if they didn't know the names for the vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our term's topic was on healthy eating. They got to see Harold the Giraffe and was able to link healthy eating with the kit.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Children were not aware of many vegetables. It was interesting to see what they know and what they didn't know. Some of the children have never tried or seen certain vegetables before.
Very engaging for the students. They loved creating a poster about the plant they were planting. They also enjoyed the process of planting and watching their plant grow. All children were very engaged and was motivated.
