How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? My learners, and myself, were motivated about Otautahi's history of Hagley Park and the Nurse's Chapel. I had whanau exploring this local area and sharing photos of the various landmarks that they had learned about. This was rewarding as their teacher too

I feel that I know and understand the Aotearoa Histories Curriculum more clearly than before using the kit. The kit assisted with it 'making sense', and how it can be integrated across the curriculum.

“I loved this kit as much as my learners did - we were all engaged and interested. We used the tangible objects in the kit as our initial motivation which we set up as our own Aotearoa museum. The picture prompts with the pepeha catered for all my learners, and encouraged curiosity. A lot of learning happened from this kit, and definitely broadened our Aotearoa History knowledge in our local area. The wide range of resources to support this learning was impressive, engaging and frequently created in-depth discussion and excitement. I have raved about this kit to other teachers!”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It did! It encouraged my students to go onto our school archives.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I was already confident, however this is an incredible resource and the quality of my teaching was greatly improved by the kit.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It would be good to have more history about specific local suburbs of Wellington (e.g. Northern Suburbs) as primary aged kids know more about their suburbs than the wider Wellington area.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The content didn't touch on local areas of Central Otago, which was disappointing, but was exciting to explore other areas that students had heard of.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I appreciated the hands on content as it was exciting to explore. Very much aimed at year 5 and above; my able year 4 students struggled, as did I, getting through this unit.

That whanau and iwi got to write their narrative in the way that it should’ve always been told and not with a Eurocentric spin.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As there was a postcard for so many areas of New Zealand meant that we could find someone very close to our school. This made the study engaging for the children.

“I enjoy using all School Kit boxes- this one will definitely last longer than a term as there is a lot in there. Not all of the student facing digital pages were complete which meant we had to be flexible but was overall impressed with the amount of content as part of this kit.”
