How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We covered the history of our local area, through a lens of conflict, prior to unpacking this kit. Next year, I would feel more inspired and confident to use archives and other sources to support our research.

“This is an extensive kit - you can tell many hours have gone into preparing and collating the many resources. My students particularly enjoyed the interactive aspect of breaking the"code"for each pepeha. Once inside each location, the students were a bit bamboozled by the amount of information and resources available and were a little unclear on how to process each task. Many surprising finds and new learning was made. We tried our best to connect the different locations and stories; however, due to time limits in our schedule, we were unable to do justice to this amazing resource. Next year!!!”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We started with a story that was connected to our local area. This meant the students could connect with events and build on the stories of the past with current events.

“Students loved using this kit. It took a little practice to work our way through some of the stories but it certainly engaged the students and made them curious to find out more details. I liked the way the activities are stepped into different levels of inquiry.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes this kit linked us into our own local history, particularly gold mining and Chinese immigrates. Would be great to have more South Island stories in particular in the lower South Island.

It was great to hook them in and by using Te reo, it also helped them figure out where the places are and who was all involved in our history of Aotearoa,

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Yes. I feel I know more now and can share more confidently with the students. I was able to use Te Reo more to practise my pronunciation and knowledge etc.

It also showed me gaps in my local knowledge that could be explored more within my own learning and classroom learning.
