“Term 3 was filled with lots of learning and our school's conceptual learning took up most of the time. As the topic did not relate to the History Kit, we could unfortunately not use it fully this term. It also is a very detailed and well-planned kit and some of the lessons were of a higher level than the group I teach.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes - we have access to local pūrākau and using a pepeha to introduce and then explore would be a great model.

Which of the following archives were you aware of and using with your students prior to kit? Digital NZ, Ka Huru Manu, Kareao, NZ On Screen, National Library, Papers Past, RNZ

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Yes, because there is lots there which we can go through at our leisure. It also allows for different ways to approach and use resources. Having digital formats that children can access into is also extrememly useful.

“Really enjoyed the approach of using the pepeha to 'find' places. It was great for tamariki to see a pepeha outside of a marae visit. They enjoyed trying to find places on maps using the pepeha and this task in itself was an adventure and so much other learning happening along the way. Liked that there were different stories to follow and also links to other sites that help find historical information.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel far more confident. This resource has helped me a lot and I will keep the kit to use again and again.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? My class loved hearing the stories from the different people and making connections to their own lives. We chose stories that were close to our school and where we live to make it even more meaningful for the boys. Awesome kit. Incredible resource.

“My class loved all of the photographs and artefacts. They lead to further research, particularly into dawn raids. It was a great kit to provide resources for the new NZ histories curriculum. The children also love researching more into the people and places that were in the artefacts”

This kit was perfect for us as there were 2 stories that related directly to our area and one of the stories supported the special character of our school and let the students learn more about one of our house leaders.

“The ANZH Kit was amazing. The postcards and items enthralled the students and they were excited to dive in and do their research. It was great to focus in on events that happened within our area, and look more in depth at one of our house leaders.”
