How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We are planning to take our students up the river to Jerusalem to see first hand where Suzanne Aubert lived and worked.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit has opened the doorway for my own teaching and learning of the AHC. The resources scaffold the learning and provide a rich range of activities.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? We are a Catholic School, so having a card that related not only to our Awa and city, but also to Suzanne Aubert was awesome. The kit is certainly a taonga.

“What an amazing resource! This was so thoughtfully and beautifully put together. We started with the cards that were relevant to our area. The kids completed the digital tasks as well as sharing work on Seesaw.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Loving the local content and discovering more about our history- before it was sort of like NZ didn't have a history and strong focus on Europe / American history. it brings history 'alive'.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I love it anyway and we do quite a bit. It has refocussed me on taking some thing small like one placer, one person, one event rather than a big thing, I see that it is more impactful. As I Saw It was exactly that and was what made it so special too.

“We loved it. 84 year 7-8 kids, 3 teachers. We started the term doing a lot of reading broadly round NZ history. Then we surveyed the kids to find out their interests. We attached them to the postcard most suited to them and ingroups of 2-3. We decided we wanted an 'end product' so they could show their learning to their parents at a hui. We made posters and we teachers are really proud of them. We saw most of our kids really engaged and enjoying the self-paced work. Thanks for the fabulous kit :)”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? You could absolutely use this model to explore the history in your local area. Learning how to use papers past for example was fantastic, so you are able to then use this for further research.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I think it was really great how each section had it's own stories. You could pick ones that meant something to your region or that you found of interest. There was a lot of information, which is great, but a lot to sort through.

Once I had more confidence in what I was supposed to be doing, I was able to be a bit more passionate about how the stories were developed.

“The kit looks amazing and the children really enjoyed looking through it all. It did take quite a while to get my head around how to use it, and some of the children found it quite challenging following along with what was required and how it all worked. Having it in advance would of been beneficial, so you have more time to prepare.”
