How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit provided us with the tools and supports to start the journey. It linked and made connections for us that would take years to build and we really appreciate this. It helped rebuild a love for history and the local stories that shape us.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? For us it was amazing and we were able to connect with some of those stories through our staff and students own whanau. This made the kits even more valuable to us and for our knowledge base and connections.

This built on our knowledge and made me more confident that it was ok to not know everything and to keep finding out alongside my students. we set parameters on the padlet, we read each other's

“It took some time for me to read and take on board the plethora of incredible resources that have been put together for teachers and students and to decide on the starting point to model as a class - I decided on 'Ahi Ka' as most students have visited Bastion Point however they do not know the history of 'what happened here' - It was best to take our time and look carefully at the tasks and unpack some as a class before moving on to another postcard and pepeha.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We explored who our 'experts' could be and I now have a list of people I would like to contact for the next time I use this kit so that I can go deeper within our local history. I have also investigated potential EOTC opportunities to support.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As a team we have made local history a focus to use as a basis for building on the wider NZ histories - Waitangi, land wars etc... Gives it more relevance as it can become too broad.

The local history in our area has always been a hard one to tackle because of two iwi not always agreeing :blush:but I am feeling more confident to approach local people now in regards to our history

When I explained to the students that iwi and whanau were involved in the stories etc in the kit they seemed to be more respectful in their researching. The fact that our small town was featured in the kit helped to make it real for my students
