How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The main thing the kit did was get the students hooked into the stories. From there, I still had to plan to deliver the curriculum.

“The kit has so much information. The class looked at the photo of Bastion Point and the stories relating to it. We also found books on the subject in the school library. None of the students had ever heard about Bastion Point and the stories about that area. It was great learning.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have gained confidence in teaching a broad range of history topics, and this worked well within an inquiry model of teaching.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It was really reassuring and removed a lot of the fear of teaching potentially difficult subjects in an insensitive way. It was great to be able to see the different perspectives and know that the key stakeholders' voices were being heard.

“The kit has been fantastic and the quality of the resources has really impressed the staff and students alike. The students have really engaged well with the different topics and one student likened it to a 'history scavenger hunt'. Some of the tasks were quite challenging when finding specific information on papers past and it would be great to have some ideas about a final end point to the journey once students have completed their tasks.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I am a lot more confident. Our school are very early on in their NZ History journey, but this has spiked my interest and certainly my confidence going forward.

“Those students who are self motivated and able to work independently found this information amazing. They were engaged and enjoyed being able to follow their own paths. Some of the students found the website a bit hard to follow and it is annoying that you have to go back to the log in everytime, could there be a log in or something like that?”

“The kit was a good starting point for me to focus on, before I developed with my class, our own NZA Histories journey. I loved the contents of the box but found the recommendations on how to use the contents (i.e. the pictures, artefacts, etc...) a bit counter intuitive.”
