What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This gave my akonga a sense of pride for not only themselves but each other. The explored many different ideas, understanding s and perspectives throughout this Inquiry and it was amazing to observe them think critically about certain parts of the kit.

“What a fabulous resource. The resources within the kit enabled me to set up a variety of stations using items from the kit. The students recorded their thoughts, feelings and ideas about what each station might be about. Following on from that they then posed their own questions for further investigation and not only went on a journey to find out about themselves but also the importance of friends and family with their journey.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I would have liked a section based around a pa in Auckland. I think there may be one under development. I found when we studied local history we looked at the local pa site as well.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel well supported with a ‘go to’ place to find correct information. I have always been a bit scard to share the Maori perspective as I am pakeha and don’t want to get it wrong.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? The stories were very interesting and having them presented from a range of perspectives and using local knowledge gave me a far better understanding to then pass on to the students.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Students very motivated - went home and asked for stories when their whanau arrived in the area and what it was like. I went home and researched my own area, looking into its history as it is a very new area.

“Thank you so much for this Kit! It was a real winner for my students and I knew they were getting a great deal! “Loved the kit, only fault is some of the cards weren't finished being created. I have loads of ideas as to how I can use it in the future and the sign in part for teachers with the discussion section is a great way to share ideas and resources and connect with others. This kit covered all of NZ with different parts of our history that are not commonly known.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It is a great resource that I can go back to as we did not cover all the stories. I am a little more confident but still need more time to familiarize myself with all the history/stories.

“Love the resource and all that came with it. I can appreciate all the hard work that went into it. But some of the activities were hard to follow or lacked substance. Some of the expectation was a bit high for my students. There was lots of reading with not enough doing. I look forward to revisiting it again next year.”
