How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? In the Waikato definitely as students were too young to fully comprehend the protest but wanted to understand more now. We will use this as a starting point again for further historical moments in our local area - especially going back to the land wars.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? The authenticity and coming from the source made more of an impact, not just reading from google/text book but 'hearing' the story felt more genuine. The connection to the areas was more real for the students hearing from the community as real people.

The knowledge that the stories were put together in collaboration with iwi. whanau and communities really mattered to us as this is exactly what we are trying to do in our own community. We found a life to the stories and a heart in them that we loved.

“This kit was incredible! It was the perfect kit to sit alongside our school wide Inquiry into local stories. The children and I loved the high quality finish of the kit - the postcards, the artefacts, the website are beautifully produced and inspired rich learning, deep conversations and excitement investigation. We intend to continue to use the kit next term also - and I imagine it will become a valuable part of my programme each year! Well done to all who contributed putting this kit together. It has given me access to a variety of resources that I didn't know existed, enabling me to explore my own understanding of Aotearoa History. It has helped me to deliver rich learning experiences for my students.

“I really loved this kit and will definitely be using again. I think the more I use it, the better my delivery of it will be and the learning will be greater each time. Tamariki loved exploring and matching up artefacts and pepeha and stories. It was extremely challenging as their world is not that big and it was talking about things from long ago which we need to do. Their experience with history has essentially only been the legends from our area and the local issues. Our only disappointment was that for some of the postcards on the student portal when they clicked on them to make their decision about where - it said come back later, still being developed. This happened on a few of them. It was hard to motivate that group to choose another postcard to connect with. Hopefully this is sorted soon. Great kit as usual, lots of thinking, lots of learning for students and teachers. It was interesting which of the postcards/artefacts we had some prior knowledge of and how we could share our own stories as a staff of what we knew about that history and if we thought it was relevant to us. Some of it came down to an age thing. I have tried to upload a photo but it kept giving me an error message. Sorry”
