How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Weekly staff hui include local purākau and links to our local iwi and resources have been strengthened and continue to be. These are shared with ākonga as well and are used to start discussion, explanations and sometimes debate.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit along with the website resources were phenomenal. Not only were they instrumental in beginning a conversation, they also built knowledge and further research for a whole school approach to celebrating learning.

“This kit was the most outstanding kit so far, in the way of the resource material both hands on and interactive. It was a bit disappointing to not be able to access all stories but those we did access and link to podcasts stimulated great debate, more research and fierce determination to tell stories from all points of view. The passion that our ākonga have for this learning and the drive to change the narrative for future generations is mind blowing. From this learning, we have made space for the passion to be strong wāhine and proud representatives for thier iwi alongside the knowledge that a story has multiple perspectives and we know that we need to see all sides. Our celebration of learning is a"Night at the Museum"where ākonga have created their own exhibits to tell the stories in their own words and share with whānau. They have engaged in two terms of learning, researching and then creating using a range of technologies, their own exhibit. The hands on material in the kit has supported this immensely. Five Star plus!”

“It was great! Such a huge range of historic moments to delve into. Kids really enjoyed working on these tasks. The artifacts were high interest and made the articles more real to them. I loved seeing the excitement when they discovered something extra by talking with their parents and reporting back. Thank you so much for the work you’ve put into this amazing resource.”

“Amazing Resource with so much information and great artefacts! We loved learning about the different stories and looking through the artefacts. We particularly enjoyed the real-life stories of people, especially when we could relate to their culture. All students recognised immediately how unfair NZ was to both Maori and immigrants from Asia.”

It has been superb for me as we are in the midst of Local Curriculum Development, and having a chance to explore some of the digital resources has given me confidence to delve deeper into them to look for our local stories.

“In all honesty, we didn't get into it as much as I had hoped. I go into the senior (Y5/6) classes to release the teachers, and I was not in as much as planned this term due to circumstances. Time constraints meant we weren't able to do it justice and get into it as deeply as I had hoped. We used the artefacts, and some of the links to look at events and what happened where, but I just didn't get to have enough sustained time to really dig in. The kit was impressive!!! And I am gutted! The website for the students was great too!”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We often explore our local area and event but often not the historical people that have molded our area. The kit reminded me that it is important to also look at the people.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It is hard to know where to start and what to focus on in the histories curriculum. This gave an easy to follow model and loads of resources which can be used. It gave me more confidence in teaching this curriculum.

“The kit fitted perfectly with our school topic this term, learning about our local awa and history associated with it. This kit gave us a structure to follow for this. Many students enjoyed the challenge of finding the location of the pepeha. The range of history topics and locations was impressive and could be used in future for other topics.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As a team of staff we are rewriting our Humanities programme to ensure we have local stories supporting the learning of our students. This is still a work in progress however the model given in the kit is a basis of how we will access local stories moving

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Our team of kaiako have become more confident in using the ANZH curriculum and seeing the links with our existing curriculum and where we have gaps and strengths. This kit went along with the support of our In school teacher - ANZH in the kahui ako.
