How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It was a great to get a starting point for how i could create my own resources.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Huge. The pepeha were a really cool touch. At first i thought they would be too difficult but the kids really understood them.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? One of the stories concerened a local area familiar to students, which was a great hook. It also helped prompt discussions about other hidden stories nearby.

“This was a really in depth kit that helps to unpack a lot of the NZ Histories. In some ways it is a little too complex for primary level students to tackle independently, and it was good to have it clear that we could use this to explore a small aspect of NZ history and return to it in later terms or years as an ongoing resource, which is where this resource will shine. Please keep the website up for a few years!”

Yes it has been interesting to learn about some of the important events that have occured in Auckland and how these may have affected our local communities. We also have learned a lot about the geography of New Zealand and where many different events occ

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Really enjoyed the different resources in the Kit. I am extending into next term so that the students will do some persuasive writing based on the research they have done this term.

“Students felt that I needed to explain the process more clearly by completing one whole task as a collaborative class project before being given their own postcard. Many of the students felt it was very challenging but they enjoyed exploring NZ History and sharing their learning by presenting back to the class.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have a much better understanding of how the curriculum document works now. I'm also aware of more resources to help deliver this curriculum.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This was fantastic. In Nelson, our iwi are reluctant to record pūrakau in written form. I knew this was a resource that could be trusted as accurate.
