“This has to be one of the best resources I have accessed from you lovely people. The stories were interesting and engaging and the artefacts created huge amounts of curiosity and dialogue. I not only used the kit with children but at our Kahui meeting recently. We are also going to use the kit at our January Staff induction meeting with the teachers.”

“This kit challenged my thinking around some of the issues in our NZ history. It was great to work with the students to see what they thought had happened. The resources that were provided gave lots of awesome discussion and scope to extend this into our Literacy programme.”

We have already found out some interesting things by asking the question"Who's voice is missing?"Some of the things we have found out are quite scandalous!

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel a lot more confident having used the kit. It has provided some great resources and I am looking forward to teaching Aotearoa Histories in the future.

“Once I got my head around it, the kit was excellent. I had a Year 3/4 composite class so some of the tasks were a little tricky but we managed to work things out with a little extra support. It was a great way to introduce Aotearoa Histories and will look forward to using and tweaking these ideas again.”

“A huge amount of resourcing and researching must have gone into this kit and from a teachers perspective it was thorough and comprehensive. My children were confused as they navigated their way through the postcards though and there was so much reading that my children who struggle with reading were disinterested as soon as they got onto the 2nd part of the website.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has opened my eyes to how to look at our location and find the stories behind it. Also it has made me realise that who is telling the stories has a big impact on how they are remembered.
