How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The Greek settlers story worked very well with our local area, in fact we found out that one of our students grandfather was involved in the Greek food industry in Courtney Place, the student also then bought a book in written about the history of the are

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The resources were good, the website support was even better. Using the website to bring students in worked well, then using physical resources to back that up worked well. Having multiple copies of resources would have helped. The resources also allowed

The resources in the kit were excellent and linked with the digital stories the kit fitted together well. I used it in a year 4,5 & 6 class, firstly I used it by introducing the activity and then letting students work through questions, this did not work well so I reviewed how to use it. The next time I scaffolded a lot more, we worked through the easy part of the resources together, then students did research around the history. We worked on the Otago Gold Rush, Opening up the South Island and Greek settlers in Wellington. Using the resource this way worked far better.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We used the Naenae one as a class demonstration which really hooked the kids in, as it is close to where we live and also a lot of the students have been there before. Now students want to know more about where we actually live, Birchville.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was great as it still is very open and honest - not sweeping over the tough subjects and saying that everything is"a ok".

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? The impact was massive - especially for our Māori children. They saw iwi links and got excited to learn about history that was relevant for them.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I created a template in google classroom and provided it for the students to frame their research. I imagine we could use the framework on stories we looked into ourselves which would be good as most of the stories in the kit had a more North Island conne

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Working through the section on the Understands, Knows & Dos was helpful as it helped connect them to actual teaching examples. It is fairly massive though. Almost too big. We felt quite overwhelmed at first. Yes, I know they say just to start small, but

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It was great to know that the stories were genuine and told with permission. Being in Otago, I wanted to choose local stories and the ones that worked together (seemed to mesh with the learning outcomes etc) didn’t have as strong a Māori focus / link as s

It’s generally a very good resource, in that the resources, links, stories etc are mostly great. The time and work put into the whole kit is evident and they way it has been made available as a ‘use it your way’ resource is excellent. Many of the links & files are terrific. One thought is that many of the newspaper articles are quite tedious / not particularly engaging. I found them quite off putting and most of my Year 7/8 students (who were working with the middle range tasks as recommended) found them challenging. Not the actual reading because they are very good readers, just the way they are written. I know this is because the articles were written that way and it’s part of the history but the questions / tasks associated with some articles were too difficult, considering the challenge of digging out the information. I will definitely exclude some of the tasks from future projects.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Some students have already reached out to family members to ask for their memories and stories of our local community. Having quite a transient student base (rural community) we are able to share histories of many more areas as students bring different lo

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit gave me the confidence to bring the new Aotearoa Histories Curriculum to life through our Library/STEAMlab - I feel that it was not only beneficial for our students who took part but also for their teachers (and other teachers in our Area School)

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Our local area/history already forms a large part of our learning area for Social Studies but this model is awesome and lends itself to our local area as we are in a gold mining area.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Once I'd figured out how to use the kit, I was confident to model it's use to the students as we worked through a 'postcard' as a class. It became clear how the samples of goods connected to the different stories, so I was learning along with the students

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I don't think that knowledge really impacted my delivery of the stories. I guess it allowed for a more balanced viewpoint, especially for the students consideration of impacts on different groups of people.

Amazing resource with very engaging stories about New Zealand's past. To be honest, I was a bit confused at the beginning and It did take a bit to work out how to use the kit effectively, especially with all of the accompanying samples and where they fitted in, but once we'd worked out how everything connected with the postcards on line it made sense. The kit was great to explore and the students were interested in what they were finding out.
