How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This is something that as a school we are looking at using local people to develop a histories curriculum for our school.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit has made me realise how the small stories have helped develop NZ into what country it is today. The structure was easy and looked at all different sides to the stories which was great for comparing different people views.

“This was a fascinating kit. It took the students to places that they had never been to before. The structure of the Kit was great it kept the students engaged and wanting to learn more. They were fascinated with the physical objects that came with the kit, they could relate to the objects rather than looking at pictures of them. For my self it has been a great learning of the other stories of NZ.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We used it the same way we approached our Living Museum. Found the resources through local people, stories, whanau connections and went from there. The model provided through the School Kit would be a great additio to any future planning.

As above when we put on a Living Museum which started with the arrival of Kupe through to Jacinda Ardern with Billy T James, Peter Jackson, Willie Apiata, Whina Cooper, Mira Szaszy, The Napier Earthquake and many others in the year in between. “What a great variety of places and events to explore. Our students loved handling the old photos and artefacts and appreciated having the freedom to explore their chosen location at their own pace. We’ve identified that many of our students will need a tighter checkpoint system to stay on task. A resource we definitely plan to use again.”

Great guidance into how our kids see their world, how we adapt to events and experiences in family and whanau. So much the community can learn from each other / from generation to generation / from family to family.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? So awesome. I felt excited about teaching Social Studies every day! Ps. I'm doing this on my phone and I can't see half the questions, or click 5 stars, but that's what I would rate this resource!

Our students who previously had one perspective, discovered that in fact NZ history is not always palatable. That was interesting to watch, their world views opened up and their assumptions

“My Year 8 class loved this kit! We launched with a wall of wondering, looking at all the source materials. Students chose a postcard and the treasure hunts began! It was fascinating following the trails and piecing together the stories of each place. We combined this learning with our creative writing and chose a key figure from our site to write a"first hand account". Powerful and evocative! I will try to attach a vid. Awesome kit, school kit! So open ended, rich and full of learning skills!”
