How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It will help to use the resources and seek out the land forms and areas of interest specifically to where my students and I live. Using the resources shared already and the links that will widen our own perspective on things in general. Very motivated

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I am able to see what my students are capable of doing and that they fully understand, know and do for our Aotearoa Histories Curriculum. I feel more enriched and capable in this curriculum considering we are beginning and extending our journey.

“My akonga absolutely loved sinking their teeth and investigative skills into this. Lots of exploration, collaboration and investigations to be had. Loads of discussion both in pairs, small groups and whole class. The confidence in having a say increased as my akonga worked on their journeys. A really good kit to work through with my akonga.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kit has sparked an interest and new passion for NZ History in our area, already our teachers are thinking of ways to design and incorporate our community into our new units of work.

Going from a place of having a good amount of knowledge but struggling for ideas on how to translate that into lessons to a place where I feel confident now that we are on the right track to do the Aotearoa Histories curriculum justice with the knowledge

They felt there was real expertise in the stories and found they were much more accessible than trying to research using outdated

“Something happened here.. our Year 9 students absolutely loved this kit. They were engaged and excited to be learning about the things that really happened here and found a good level of challenge in the activities. The activities are expertly differentiated and let all of our students challenge themselves and achieve at their own pace. I found that the areas where myself or my colleagues did not know enough we were quickly able to learn with and from our students. Students loved being able to touch and play with small objects that helped them bring to life what had happened.”

Given me lots of good ideas and areas to delve into to engage and motivate students when learning about their history and the history of NZ. “The school kit had wonderful resources to use and the students loved touching and reading the 'stuff' that made up the kit (old photos, medals etc). This made the learning come alive for them and had them asking deep and authentic questions.”
