How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Given me lots of good ideas and areas to delve into to engage and motivate students when learning about their history and the history of NZ. Loved the variety of artefacts to help make learning more fun and interesting.

“The school kit had wonderful resources to use and the students loved touching and reading the 'stuff' that made up the kit (old photos, medals etc). This made the learning come alive for them and had them asking deep and authentic questions.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The ideas from within the kit allow for exploration of key areas in the pepeha for example that can visited and learnt about in more depth.

It is great to have resources and visuals provided for students which gave them more confidence to talk to something - spark their interest. I could possibly use this model once planning of curriculum is put in place.

“Hi there, thank you so much for such a great resource. We were waiting to engage our students once our school curriculum was in place for 2023 and we had a clear vision moving forward for the New Zealand Histories Curriculum. We had looked at the photos and students undertook some research to find out more about them. It was more of a discussion and breaking up into groups and doing some research. We seemed to have run out of time as there was so much on during the year.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We are fortunate to have a connection with our local iwi and have organised guided hikoi through places of significance for Te Kawerau a Maki. This definitely reinforced that we were on the right track.

“Our tamariki absolutely loved the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories kit! It was a fantastic way to start our learning journey. they enjoyed being able to handle the artifacts! There were many exciting discussions, but did struggle a bit with how to work our way through the resource - maybe a sequence for how to roll it out would help.”
