“Our Yr5-6 team have been unpacking the Aotea roa Histories currivulum via Pānui provocations in term 3, (migration patterns of ancient Polynesian explorers) and term 4, (exploring key moments in NZ past such as Suffragette movement, Waterfront dispute, dawn raids, sinking of Rainbow Warrior, 1981 Springbok tour). Only recently got onto 'Something is Happening Here' kit, starting with Observation' postcard. Amazed at students questioning and inferencing skills. Captivating materials that generate intense group discussion”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We broke it into parts - only touched the surface of the kit and will build on this next year. We used th ephotos and explored perspective - linked it to journal stories and to the resources on the A.H website.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Much more confident. Having actual resources and stories at the ready has enabled me to not put it on the back burner and get stuck in.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The students were really interested in our local stories and as we already had some to move onto it went really well to integrate the two together.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has given me a lot of wonderings and questions about our local area. As curriculum leader, I am excited to take our tamariki on a journey and uncover more of our local history.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has given me the tools and inspiration to start exploring more of the local area. It has inspired me to look at how we can also create resources for our local Kāhui Ako ANZHC workstream.

“This kit was a great basis for exploring different aspects of New Zealand History. It was broad enough to allow for student agency but also allowed for structured plans around the resources. The amount of resources were incredible and can be used for way more than just one term of inquiry”

“Basing my review of the kit itself as we didn't end up using it this term due to planning conflicts. This kit has the most stunning resources that have been thoughtfully created and linked to the new curriculum changes. I love that we can link these to our local area/community too! I have no doubt these will invoke some useful discussions and significant learning in our social studies classes and look forward to using them Term 1 next year.”
