This kit made our learning a lot more special and meaningful and allowing space to develop boarder awareness of their world views. Moving forward I know our tamariki will be excited to get out and learn more about our local histories.

“This kit came with an amazing set of resources. My class absolutely loved looking at all of the aflrtifacts and becoming historians. The pepeha aspect fit really well with our learning at school this year and we enjoyed learning about the te reo maori place names using ka huru manu. We managed to decode all the postcards and find the places on a NZ map. As my class were only year 4, we went through the tasks of only a couple of postcards. This was a bit tricky for them, which I knew it would be before we started. We loved looking at the photos like historians would and thinking about what was happening in the photo. We have not yet explored all the places where something happened, but I know this is an amazing resource I can continue to use in the future.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit prompted student research into how our local area came to be. Students chose to investigate what the main Street of Howick looked like before and the history of our local mountain.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel much more confident to deliver this new curriculum. With resources and online places to go. It was also interesting to see international students interested in the place they live.
