“We haven't been able to get into the kit as much as I would have liked but from what we have done we have been so impressed. There is so much information and the hands on artifacts are excellent. Next year we are digging more into the new history curriculum so I know we will be able to continue using and working with this kit. Thank you very much for all the hard work that has gone into making the kit. Thanks”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I will be able to use this kit again to our area. I have found it difficult to find information other than the gold rush for our area. It is great to have such engaging and related stories to our area.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Much better as I feel I have the understanding of the iwi point of view and their knowledge to pass on to our tamariki.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Huge! This way the stories are told through the iwis that the area relates to. Not through my own knowledge of what I was taught in the 80's and 90's. I too have learned and understand more.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This was like a museum in a box! We did a school trip to MOTAT this year and seeing the change in the learners and the way they did not pass by the images on the walls but stopped to unpack what they saw was totally down to using this kit.. loved the way

The kit allowed me to learn how to work with the learners so we can discover together and not be afraid of not knowing. exploring together. We still have so many questions and that is fantastic.

“This kit was one of the best for us so far. The way the learners engaged with the myriad of details and items in the kit. They had discussions and researched and created writing pieces about things that were entirely new to all of us. I was not teaching them - we were discovering together. It was amazing! They were so engaged that we struggled to stop to do our other lessons. The rich conversation was exceptional. We commented on how things change over time, how our actions impact on so much more than we realise, and how small insignificant things can have such a story to tell.”

“This is such a comprehensive kit that I will use for years to come. The children absolutely love the pepeha and linking the clues to get started. It creates such a buzz of excitement. The progression is excellent and the content for my Yr 5 & 6 learners has been great. Once we got into our first postcard we were off, and the class were asking for more. We will continue on with this next year.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Including 'local' history is a bit of a mine field. Any help that we can get is useful. Connecting with our local history is going to be an ongoing process, so yes this kit model could be useful moving forward.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Having interesting resources to help deliver the ANZHC is very helpful. Many teachers who are teaching this curriculum are not History teachers and so this kit and the resources have helped them feel more confident in delivering the ANZHC curriculum.
