“This is an excellent kit, probably the best I have seen from School Kit. It is comprehensive, well researched and engaging for students. The resources that come with it, both physical and digital are amazing. The research that has gone into the stories is really good and gives you the confidence to know that you are being respectful of iwi/whanau/communities that have shared their stories. How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We do quite a lot already, but this kit provided more background information encouraging deeper digging. I hope to share the knowledge and ideas across my whole faculty moving into our curriculum refresh and school unit development 2023.

“Well what a resource! Can see this being used for years to come with snippets contained fitting across the curriculum and being relevant for so many topics. This term I used the cards for connecting the Holocaust to Aotearoa's involvement as part of out Human Rights work. While completing this students raised so many questions and ideas that I can see that Term 4 is not ideal as we have so much more to unpack! The students enjoyed the artifacts, again a resource with a world of possibilities. Thank you for supplying this and please keep up the great mahi! Me te mihi nui, Jo Brennan”

We are currently further developing our ANZH content and this has helped to guide us with some of our information gathering and unit building. We are intending to pair this kit with Hands on Tauranga items so our students can see more comprehensive links

“This pack contained many interesting items and photographs. The students thoroughly enjoyed looking through the items and discussing them in relation to their own whanau and families. Many said they talked to their whanau about the items and were told things about the experiences of their own families.”

“Great kit but alot to get through with struggling learners. We modelled one card altogether and worked through tasks etc which was ideal for the students able to work in small groups with a card they chose. I planned a modified programme for 6 learners to work together with me on one card to support them.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We went down to the Patea Museum to explore the story further. We wouldn't have done this without exploring the story in our kit.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This helped me to show the children that a variety of perspectives is important to more fully understand historical events, and for me to accept this for myself as well.

Children were fascinated to add to what they already knew, and to find out more about a local story that they only had bits of. Knowing the stories came from locals was powerful.

“Such an amazing amount of preparation gone into this kit! The children were fascinated by the hands-on materials - photos, items from the past, things they'd never seen before. They enjoyed having the option to choose which pathway to follow as well. We spent a significant amount of time on one local story together as a class and they really enjoyed it. Thank you!”
