They weren't our local iwi, with whom we already work, but part of the story ended at Parliament, where local iwi's rights and mana were poorly treated during the March occupation this

“What a fabulous resource! The facsimile documents and other items were a very high standard and led to lots of interesting conversations in class and also back home with whanau. Tamariki are now more aware of important events that have shaped Aotearoa and are also learning about the valuable and accessible historical information available for research. Tamariki are also learning to think about whose point of view is being shown and how that might differ from someone else's perspective, which is so important when facing the barrage of information (and misinformation!) that is available to them now digitally. I will be using this kit a lot.”

“It did take awhile for the kids to engage in the kit, but when they began to understand the concepts they really got into it. They really enjoyed seeing how New Zealand was in the olden days and were able to make comparisons with todays world”

“Our students were highly interested in all the artefacts and history that this pack has to offer. We feel it is a very worthwhile resource and all schools should try it. It fits in so nicely with the Aotearoa Histories curriculum and teachers son't have to worry about not having the knowledge as there are so many resources to turn to in this pack.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes it has. We explored the Battle of Boulcott's Farm, a minor local skirmish in the greater land wars. We invited local iwi and a local historian to talk to us.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I'm a history geek and was already very confident with the delivery of the Aotearoa Histories Curriculum. I think this kit would appeal most to teachers who already have a good level of confidence teaching history.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think we do a pretty good job of local history in Waitara, however, this method of engagement is awesome and really adds to the classroom and wider experience.
