“The amount of resources and thinking that has going into this is huge! The easy accessibility of our own history to discuss and learn about was fantastic, especially with the replicas that went with it. Because there was so much, it was actually a bit overwhelming at first so I would highly recommend looking one altogether or doing it in smaller parts.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We actually were able to source many books from the library based around our own local community. We also were fortunate to have some locals come in and talk to us about life in our town in the mid 1900's.

“Outstanding kit probably the best we have ever had. We could see how much work has gone into it. We loved it because it was dealing with lots of things that had an impact on NZ, most of the students had no idea that many of these things had happened in our country. We are only hoping we can access the student website so we can continue to work through our postcards next year.”

“I am still going - there is so much to unpack from this kit so I have heaps to go on with next year as well. The kids loved the exploration side of things and I really enjoyed that they had choice around the different levels they could do with the tasks. How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely! As a teacher born overseas and having only recently moved to Auckland, NZ I was not very familiar with the history of the local area around my school and community. This kit has helped to make the narratives of the land more accessible.

“I greatly enjoyed having this resource and being able to learn about New Zealand's history together with my students. I am not a New Zealand citizen and prior to using this kit was not very familiar with a wide range of events that have helped to shape the social, cultural, and political narrative of Aotearoa. I also didn't want to try to teach information about events from an uninformed position where it might be seen as tokenism or superficial at best. This kit and the online resources helped provide an accessible pathway to increase my knowledge of important events in NZ's history, as well as significant figures of import. I thoroughly enjoyed using this kit and already have ideas of how I can use it more in-depth next year and weave the information throughout the whole school year rather than only unpack it in one unit of inquiry.”
