Gaining an understanding and helping the children to develop their stories and how they can research with increased confidence using the amazing resources and new sites they have access to. How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes we could totally relate as Dame Whina Cooper was from West of our school and she started the protest march up in Te Hapua which is in the north of our school.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? We had some PD from facilitators in Whangarei prior to our term 3 school wide unit of NZ history so we feel like we had a chance to understand and familiarize ourselves with the curriculum.

“Loved this school kit, it integrated perfectly into our history unit this term. I loved that it said not to do too much - 32 cards was way too much and we only actually did 4 of the post cards. One of the cards was the protest which happened to coincide with the new Dame Whina Cooper movie coming out so our senior classes went to see this at the movies.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Somewhat. I have recently moved to Pukekohe and noticed that there was a card related to this area. I am keen to delve into it more when this section of the website becomes available.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Greatly. There are some topics I wouldn't go near before using this kit. It has been great at teaching me about our history and this will enable me to better teach my students.

“This kit is fabulous. The range of topics and important events in our history is extensive. My Year 4-6 students loved having the ability to extend themselves by jumping over to the Year 7-8 section. I did find this kit a little tricky to begin. It is very open ended and there is no set way of teaching it ( that's I could see!) But that's also the beauty of it.”
