The way the stories and resources are curated on the SHH webpages, as well as the kinds of questions asked, and Social Studies skills being unpacked, can be used as a pattern, to develop a similar differentiated inquiry based around our local area. The SHH School Kit presents rich, easily accessible resources to facilitate the teaching of New Zealand history. Starting each inquiry with its pepeha, effectively connected place to stories and events, piqued student curiosity and immediately drew my students into the investigation. The design of this resource provides a great deal of flexibility. There is a lot of direction and structure for students who need this, while those with well developed inquiry skills very quickly begin to access sources,"go down the rabbit hole"and start to excitedly share what they have discovered. This design fosters very natural sharing of learning between peers, collaboration in research and discussion around findings. One of the strengths of this School Kit is its flexibility of use. It works equally well for whole class learning, small group inquiry and individual inquiry. This allows students to engage with the learning with varying levels of support, tailored to their needs. I love the way that the location based inquiries can be used together as a whole unit focus, but also picked out individually and added to existing units of work, to enrich and deepen that learning. For Example: the stories connected to the women's suffrage movement align with our government unit (as do many other stories); stories connected to the holocaust compliment a WW2 based novel study that we do; multiple stories connect to our unit on immigration . . . Different stories align to every topic focus that we cover and I envisage this Kit becoming well embedded in units of work, throughout both years of our two-year cycle. The HOW TO . . . resources linked to the Teacher Support Materials are particularly helpful - these are excellent for helping students (and teachers) access material on websites that curate primary sources. The Reading Historical Images (the School Kit Model) is an excellent resource to scaffold the skill of interpreting images. I found the Coded Curriculum Document and Content Navigator to be excellent, simple tools for helping align the inquiries with specific Progress Outcomes. This provides helpful modelling of how the NZHs Progress Outcomes can be unpacked in learning contexts. This School Kit is one of the best curriculum learning resources I have seen and I am excited about using it to connect students to the stories, events, perspectives and issues of our history over the coming years. It is a very sophisticated design.

This kit was absolutely fantastic for my capable year 7&s. My less casinos students needed quite a lot of support but still got a lot out of it. We found it was too challenging gif our year 5/6 students (even though it said tears 4-8). I will definitely use it again for my intermediate students.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It was great to unpack the stories of our whanau and area. Unpacking our own stories made this real for us, not just finding out about wider NZ history.

We found this kit was a bit beyond our group of Year 5 students and with sickness within our team of teachers we could not dedicate time to this to help students gain more of an understanding. The kit itself was amazing and the detail was awesome. We put up a wall display as we had two kits for our 3 classes and did not realise 2 teachers had ordered it.

The students in my class had not really had much history teaching apart from a small amount of local area history. They were so engaged and loved using the resources, websites and artifacts as part of the lessons.
