“Students loved the pepeha and connections to place all over Aotearoa. They could see themselves in the stories and learnt more about other cultures too. They are more appreciative of all people who make up this country and what we have all been through. We have not used all resources yet so will continue to enjoy in next year too. Kai te pai!!”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I need to learn more about our area, our iwi are still discussing what stories should be told - as there are so many versions, so it's taking a while in the Hawke's Bay! could use this model for sure!

“This is a great kit to get to know and understand history in Aotearoa. It was tricky for some children to navigate and they needed quite a bit of support. Lots of reading and discovering. Fits nicely across the curriculum.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have learned things about the local area I didn’t know and thought more about topics outside just straight what happened on a timeline - events that engage and are a little less obvious eg colonisation and importing of exotic species

“Great self directed resource! Interesting and learn things you wouldn’t learn else and love how it teaches historical research skills and photo analysis etc. Not sure how differentiated it is though - if you’re on to it you just get more done. Love the kit and the little trinkets and clues. Students were engaged and loved that aspect of it. Needs a good proof read there are a few grammatical errors, on the student facing website”

“A lot of love and care went into creating this kit. I teach Year 5/6 and although the students enjoyed locating the places and linking them to events, they did struggle a lot to comprehend a lot of the key learning that was intended. At times, I felt like the kids weren’t nearly as interested or passionate about the learning as I was as the teacher, due to their interests, maturity level etc.”

“I would like more detailed planning - something you can just pick up and run with (and then add to or adapt as you see fit to suit students rather than it being the opposite way around) rather than having to puzzle it out so much. I have found this with several of the kits I have had from you. The best one I have had was the ANZACS kit”
