How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Both postcards we investigated were outside our local area. I would like to use the kit again next year to focus on those in our local area (Dunedin). The approach of the kit could be used again in my local area as I am now aware of some online resources

“For me, this kit provide a safe first step into the ANZH curriculum document. The wide range of choices (36 postcards) provided an easy way to find an event and place that was suitable for my class. The use of photographs was an accessible way for my Y5&6 class to connect with the history and make connections. Many powerful discussions resulted from what we discovered.”

“What an amazing School Kit. The in depth knowledge and fantastic resources made this kit so accessible and relevant for my class, and I personally learned a lot as well. I loved the artefacts and found this brang a lot of buy in. It's also inspired me to find more historical stories to read and connect with in the School Journals as well. Ngā mihi ki a koutou katoa who researched and made these incredible resources. I will use them for years to come.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Know that iwi were consulted gave me the confidence to deliver the material. And the confidence moving forward.

For the students I don't believe they understood the impact but for me it was incredibly important to understand the different perspectives from the different iwi. Māori speaking for Māori.

“I found it hard to navigate. The resources were overwhelming. We did have a go at the looking at the impact of colonisation. We used the podcast, letters to the editor, and other links on the website to think about what life was like and how it effected different people. Due to many absents last term - that was all we managed.”

This was very engaging for my learners, they recognised some of the kupu in each pepeha and were able to use this to research locations. I loved the local connection and links to iwi.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We used the kit to help us to discover more about our local community (with 150th Jubilee over Labour Weekend), using the model to guide us. Very definitely want to use the kit in 2023.

We were able to create a syndicate play based on stories we learnt about. Our caretaker gave a group talk about how he was part of the land march in 1975.

“There was lot of material to choose from in this kit. Great to see all the resources available such as postcards, maps and access to the website. At times I felt like I really needed to narrow the topic down to get the basics of topic first. Learnt stuff about NZ history that I didn't know previously.”
