How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, we could certainly use this model although I'm not sure we'd be able to plan it and resource it as well as you do at Schoolkit! Seeing that there are some pretty deep stories in our local community certainly makes us want to explore more in the futu

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I've still got a lot to learn but I do feel much more confident having seen what great archives and other sources of information are out there. Being able to access Something Happened Here in the future would also be amazing.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? We were really pleased that, as well as learning about events throughout Aotearoa, we discovered some local Dunedin stories. This was pretty powerful for kids who walk and bike through those neighbourhoods every day of their lives.

We absolutely loved Something Happened Here which was about 30 units of learning in one package - enough to keep us engaged and learning for several years! The students went off in many different directions and then reported back to their peers. By the finish, we'd all learnt a huge amount about lots of things we previously knew very little about (myself included!). Add to that the teaching of some fantastic research skills and exposure to some amazing online resources and, all in all, this is a top quality unit. We especially loved learning how to analyse a photo. Thanks from all in Room 17!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We started the year researching our local community so the kit gave us a chance to back up what we had been researching and a lot more.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It took me a couple of lessons to figure out the kit and website. But once I had gained the confidence I was able to use the kit in a way that I could adjust and teach to all learning needs. For the children that needs my support we worked as a small grou

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? The way the stories were written was fantastic it was as if you were in the story yourself and were able to retell it to the children in a way it should have been.

I absolutely loved this kit, The year 7-8 children really valued the teacher-directed learning and then having the opportunity to go and research the kit, and topic themselves. I actually learned quite a bit about NZ history and thought it was wonderful to be able to delve into the recent and deep past rich history

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This is important as stories told need to be the stories of those involved and not our interpretations.

I find the resources to be written at quite a high level of literacy. Students often had to work at one of the lower levels to be able to understand the work.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit coincided beautifully as we have actually done just that. Our school is 139 years old this year and this is the first year that we have hands on, gone looking for our history.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have literally come from nothing to be incredibly inspired about teaching NZ history. I have recommended the kit to everyone at school and will base my teaching around it for years to come. Thank you

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This is what makes the learning real and authentic. It is us, learning about us, from us (sorry, not quite sure how to explain that). Brings our learning into our real life and makes our NZ history come alive.

Hands down the BEST kit I have received from School Kit and the bar is set very high! I loved going on this journey with my students and they were fascinated with so much of the information shared. It is outstanding to have our students learning about our NZ history like this. The interactive and exploring dynamics included were perfectly pitched and resourced for my year level (5 & 6). We are continuing our expeditions this year and I will use this kit for many years to come. Many thanks

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We are currently learning about Te Arawa Journeys which is fantastic but it is equally fantastic to have stories from oth

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It generated many discussions as students shared their learning with their families and some discovered the impact some events had on their extended families. Students did presentations too and this helped each other understand things better.

Challenging and interesting. My year 5-8 students needed scaffolding and did not complete some of the research due to time constraints but really focused on the events, their causes and their impacts. We also added some creative aspects top the presentations. Afterwards, several students wanted to do more. Sadly not all of the information was accessible when we were doing our kit - it said coming soon. I thought I knew a lot but I learnt heaps too!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I need to check into the kit to see if there is anything on Parihaka, as there is a memorial at the historic goal site at Seaview.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Knowing that the stories as told were from voices not usually heard was great. It was reassuring to know that the information was already had approval and the story had an iwi perspective and the story is as the iwi want it to be told.

A great kit and the website is a mine of information. The text on the website was challenging for Year 4's to access independently, it worked best when we did this as a whole class shared reading activity. The class enjoyed handling the artifacts and images. We needed more copies of the images, as one group at a time was a bit fustrating in the end we cast the images to the TV, so acesss to a folder of the images digitally would have been good and sped things up. We have used snippets of stories to suppliment other learning we have been doing e.g. the impact story about Accclimatiasation Societies was used in conjunction with reading about possum introduction into NZ.
