It was important to them as felt more connected to the topics, far more authentic. Usually the stories are from overseas and they said they didn't feel linked to them as they did these stories.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It motivated me as a teacher to make sure that I involve whanau and community in discussions with the learning of our surrounding iwi and community.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was great to learn alongside of my students. Looking forward to doing this again as my confidence level has grown from this unit. Ngaa mihi to all that was involved creating this resource for our students.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The kit has made a significant difference because I was finding it hard to find a starting point. This gave the opportunity to build interest with the students and a more natural beginning was able to take place. Their buy in helped a lot.

“Kia ora, the ANZH: Something Happened Here 22 kit is ataahua. The quality of the resources was quite unexpected as I didn't realise there was going to be some many artefacts. The connection to a Te Ao Māori lens through pepeha was clever. It utilised a familiar structure that most ākonga know, but asked them to take it further by actually connecting the pepeha to whenua. This really gives ākonga a tangible experience of connection- especially those who feel that don't have a pepeha or understand the significance of how it connects people to whenua. However I haven't had the opportunity to use the kit yet. The kaupapa of our school limits the use of computers, so this has restrict the ease of going into research. Our current curriculum development work is looking at how the Aotearoa Curriculum can be integrated with our special character curriculum. The stories in this kit, will help with integrating and connecting the strands of both curriculums together.”
