How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Given me a lot more confidence because I have learnt so much history through it also. The information also comes from a source that I trust and know will be correct so not Misinforming students.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We started with our local area before this kit but now I would love to go back and see the ‘hidden’ history. The stories people have that tell a real story about our land.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Huge because you could trust the information and know that it had not just come from one persons opinion or facts and it had the Māori culture truthfully present in it.

“I have started unpacking the amazing resources for this kit and am so impressed and excited for my class to fully get into it! I know they are going to be very engaged in the learning with the online component and the fabulous hands on resources as well. The depth of knowledge and learning that is in this kit is huge and could easily spread throughout the year. They are such interesting stories and have different topics for all the kids to enjoy. Love this kit!”

“While I hv applied for an extension, I did get to work through some of the kit before the end of term. I think the depth of info, the photos and other artefacts drew the students in. I feel that this initial go, even with instructions and student website , I was ‘feeling my way’ a bit and I will approach this differently with my other social studies classes next term, first working through a story together to model everything and see how the photos etc fit (which I was not sure of at first).”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Although we have only delved a little, I feel I can teach the curriculum content with a little more ease. Better than Ministry PD.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Our kahui ako have spent much time along with our local iwi on local history. They have set models but feel I could integrate the two.

They and I are impressed with how interactive it is, though this is also an issue due to the number of devices available within our class. I also learnt a lot through reading up on the stories myself, when I was working out the stories suitable for the students.

“I found this quite advanced for my year 3/4 class. So really had to sieve through the information. The pepeha at the beginning of each story was a great way for the students to find out what the places were.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Whilst initially I felt a little overwhelmed at how much I don't know, this kit is a great learning tool for teachers with super resources all in one place.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, I'm definitely more interested in the history of Wellington. Whilst I have some awareness of the city's past, there is so much I am not aware of and would love to find out more.

“Whilst I haven't used the kit yet with my class, I have spent some time with colleagues exploring and unpacking the school kit and plan to use it in term 4. I am planning to use the Mauka resource with my Year 4 class. We are exploring migration stories and the fact that this resource focuses on Wellington (where we are) is fantastic for the local perspective. I did initially find the site a little tricky to navigate and am a little overwhelmed by the content that is to be covered by Year 4 students but am open to embracing it and value the importance of the histories Aotearoa curriculum and think the school kit will help to upskill teachers and give them confidence in their teaching of many topics that are new to them.”
