“Over lockdown it was hard to build students &; whānau confidence to return to kura due to Covid pandemic. I was so busy trying to build relationships between the tamariki vs I and the tamariki vs tamariki too. I honestly didn’t get time to put effort into using this resource. However my approach has finally paid off &; my 22 tamariki are now showing more empathy, manaaki &; rangatiratanga towards each other (social skills). Now the learning can happen!”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? This is something we are consistently working on. Children are able to verbally talk about it but sometimes their actions take over before they have thought about it.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? We used this for homework to talk to their whānau, this was then shared with the class for morning talk.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Being respectful is not just saying thank you etc. The children talked about different ways of being respectful and how they like to be treated and why.

“This kit had a fantastic impact on my children, they learnt so much about each other especially children that they were not so familiar with. It was lovely to hear the conversations after they had a play lunch together, or how they were feeling each day!!! I totally loved the fact that it was children building other children’s self esteem up. Thank you”

Felt it was more suited to older children and had circumstances been different would have passed on to the next year level.

“Beautiful kit with well made resources. Just a pity that lockdown got in the way to really use this kit. I will be going back and using the kit and looking at the resources again as I think this is an awesome topic to start the school year off with. Fun, colourful and appealing to teachers and students.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? I absolutely loved the play lunch concept it was the most valuable part for our class. I love the recharging station, the children used this lots. We found the conversation question cards were very interesting as well. All in all I loved the way this kit

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? By deliberately teaching these behaviours, the children are now aware and able to identify them, articulate them and react to them and learning to regulate them.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? My classroom is girl heavy, this helped them to learn to make and play with other friendships when their usual friendships were under stress.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? The playground project encouraged my class to play with eachother during break times. They enjoyed coming in and swapping stickers, it became a good habbit and was nice to see new relationships build.
