This was a very timely kit, having just come back from lockdown plus with a few children who struggle to self regulate their emotions, meant that we could focus in an authentic way how to build empathy and understanding others.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? By bring their attention to empathy and what that means, and allowing them to feel the benefits of being kind to others.
This kit has been fantastic to use with my class especially looking at how we relate to others. The Playground poster,charging station and individual sticker books have been so engaging for the students. This is something I refer to all the time and the students love sharing the things they did to earn a sticker. I have also shared in our School eTan (newsletter) and assemblies what we are doing. This is flowing having a positive flow-on effect in the playground as you see the positive interactions happening. The videos and stories also send a message in a way students can understand and create some in-depth discussions about emotions and how we treat each other. They are really age appropriate and the songs hook the students in also. The students have also been demonstrating relationships at Kapa Haka so it crosses all curriculum areas and key competencies. The parents/whanau also enjoy hearing what is happening and strengthens partnerships with them as well.

This kit gave students the opportunity to explore respect in different ways and think about as more than just listening to each other and keeping their hands and feet to themselves.
I loved the open ended nature of this kit. Unknowingly, the timing was perfect to use after returning to the classroom after lockdown.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The incentive of swapping stickers was a great idea, as was sharing the same game big book. Children readily contributed questions for the same game and played in small groups independent of the teacher. Thanks for a great unit.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Yes, a very timely intervention as some attitudes were heading in the wrong direction. It definitely made it easier to turn them around.
It had some great things in it. My students were very excited by the LunchPlay Project (the one with the stickers). It does require constant refreshing and reteaching. I repurposed the battery with magnets. It was designed as a kind of reward sticker chart kind of thing, however, our school already has a reward system through PB4L. I stuck it on the wall close to the floor with the mat under it and the magnets pinned in a small bag next to it. I spoke to a boy who can get angry quickly and needs cooling down periods. Whenever he needs a small break to gather himself, he can go sit on the mat and ";recharge his battery"; by sitting down and slowly filling the battery with the magnets, giving himself time to calm down. It is located behind my desk so he can feel safe and remain undisturbed by other students. He has yest to use it though. It is another thing that I need to readdress and remind him.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? From the lunch time activity of sitting with other people, being able to sit and interact with people that are not our best friend or social group has encouraged prosocial behaviors within our classroom and wider syndicate.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? The task cards were easy to use with practical ideas. These cards were explicit compared to other kits that I have used in the past. I much prefer how this kit was set out in order to achieve the desired outcome of developing respectful relationships e.g.
All students have extended their friendship groups and are more open to playing with class members they may not have pre sticker chart! The children have started planning group games to include as many children in the class as they can during play times. The children loved the sticker books and the 'what if' cards expecially.

Coming back to school after lock down was hard for a couple of children who struggled to reconnect with others. Using this kit helped the transition back into our normal classroom and school relationships.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? My students have become more aware of the ideas, feeling and thoughts of others. Having empathy is some thing that came up in our discussions and is a skill we need to continue to reinforce in our little humans.
This kit was able to be used in so many ways in the classroom. Our class particularly enjoyed the recharge station and they have continued to use it daily and refer back to the skills learned about being respectful towards others. We noticed improved negotiating and behaviour skills out in our wider school an I believe this was linked to our work around respectful relationships in this kit. The format of this kit enables you to pick and choose which activities work best for you students and really get them engaged. The conversation dice were a huge win for my students and they ask to use them independently throughout the day. The resources are high quality, relevant and I know will be able to be used again in years to come.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? I have found students are able to identify pro and anti social behaviours and reason how they could change an anti social behaviour to a pro social one.
How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? We noticed a change in how students were interacting outside of the classroom in our playground, and that was with only one class doing this kit. It was really valuable in our post lockdown school life.

We used the Key Words cards to create a word wall and used these wherever we can. It helped us build a bank of words in Te Reo Māori to use frequently and fluently in the classroom space. The question cards to send to whānau also enabled some really rich
Fantastic Kit to start the term. Children were reflective on daily relationships. They became ore aware about how to be kind in some way.
