We are currently working hard on well being, mindfulness and managing oneself in a certain environment. This helped the learners understand that they need to listen and respect other peoples opinions even though you do not always agree with them.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Through role play

“My class loved taking part in the activities. I loved the play lunch idea although with 5/6 year olds, it took a little time for them to get their heads around it. The story of Tim worked very well and they could all identify with it. It generated lots of class discussions about what it meant to be fair and take turns - something we have been working on during our developmental times on Fridays. Quite often they think it means that if they ask nicely, they will always get what they want but of course, that's not always how things work. I loved the dice too. They were great to use when something came up in the playground, we talked about it and then I used some of the prompts from them to support the children into deeper thinking. The kit has certainly been a very useful resource to use alongside our class programme although we haven't yet worked through all of it. Thank you so much for the kit. It's been great to have a resource that is targeted at younger children that actually works for them. If I can make one comment from a personal perspective, I found the print on the cards very small to read. Perhaps a larger font next time? I realise a larger font means it takes up more space but the cards could be double sided instead of having two ideas on one side.”

“The stories, videos and books got the children thinking about respectful relationships, as they could relate ideas to their own experiences. There were lots of small group and buddy discussions and sharing. The tasks provided opportunities to practice respectful relationships.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? I think everyone is just a little bit more mindful about everyone who surrounds us. Thank you for such a great and interactive kit.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? I think it gave my kids the why ... sometimes we tell kids to be respectful without the reasoning behind it and this opened up some great communication behind why we are respectful.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? I think the fact that children learnt to listen to others was great. I often talk about its ok not to agree with others but we need to listen to them.

“Thank you School Kit team for giving me this opportunity to integrate this kit into our classroom. I have seen deeper relationships developing and a growth in empathy towards others. This kit came at the right time! The children have decided to continue with the lunchtime project this term. Also they are very proud of the collaborative artwork they created together as a team. Children wrote about how they felt about working together and how their artwork makes them feel when they looked at it. They also wrote about the lunchtime project which enlightened me to how they really feel about getting to know someone new.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Broadening their knowledge around respectful. My kids are aged 6-8, and their idea was to be kind. I extended this so that they had a better understanding.

“Thanks for the opportunity to try one of your kits, they came very highly recommended by a colleague. I teach juniors and she teaches middle school. Initially, I was not sure if my application was successful as I had heard nothing back from you after applying till the kit turned up at school. I'm not sure if this is standard or if there was a a communication glitch. It would have been great to have known earlier that the kit was coming. The resources all looked great, but for my NE/ Year 1 class they were really pitched too high. I used a few of the videos and one of the lesson plans but I went back and used previous resources that I have found on respect as I found them leveled more appropriately. I didn't find the format of the lessons very easy to follow, I would have preferred them in a booklet form maybe? It took me a while to read each one and to work out which item was being referred to. Overall, I think I will refer back to this resource when teaching Respectful Relationships again, particularly if I have an older class of kids.”
