How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? The components have really reinforced our new school values, especially respect and kindness. Perfect!

“This kit was easily adapted to use with high school students with special needs. They particularly liked the concept of everyone having their own coloured magnet that they used to show visually how they were feeling that day by placing their coloured circle on the battery magnet. It helped them to understand that it was okay to be having an orange or red day and that others were also feeling the same. This promoted discussion around an area that is often difficult for them to express. The recharging mat was invaluable and one boy would deliberately move it to the centre of the room to show others that he needed to recharge using breathing techniques or a movement break etc.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The visual and 'prompts' as to what prosocial behaviours look like have improved some of the negative behaviours into positive

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? I use the battery in class as a motivator to practice being respectful to one another. The children really like to see that we are filling the battery up each day as it means we are being kind, caring and respectful.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? We're on a journey and this kit has absolutely supported our class to learn about this and apply new skills learned.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? I feel like there were some real benefits for our class relationships, and the whole kit linked perfectly with what our RTLB has been doing with our class during Circle Time.

“I thought this kit was wonderful! It was perfectly timed for completing after lockdown, it fit in really well with our school values and really encouraged positive behaviors towards each other. We also really dove into the realm of understanding our feelings and emotions and this was very helpful for my tamariki! Wonderful kit, thank you!”

“This kit had lots of good ideas, but I felt it was much more suited to Years 5-6 rather than Juniors. MY children need simple words and activities, we made a happiness tree, talked and acted out being kind and caring. We used puppets, ,sharing circles and role plays to show respect. We had a kindness tree in class and encouraged the children to 'tell' when people were kind or showed respect to them. We enjoyed the links to all the books and”

The kids split into two groups and shared their ideas before nominating a spokesperson to say their views. A big thing for year 1-3 kids.
