“Unfortunately covid interrupted our use of this kit. My class enjoyed using the battery to think about their feelings and this worked well with our focus on kindness. The students began to think more about who they play with. The stickers were a good incentive, with ongoing reminders needed to keep branching out with friendships. We had ongoing discussions re specific words we use which show respect. This kit helped our NE begin to understand how we show respect in all aspects of school. Our school 'rules' are based on respect - for ourselves, for others &; for the environment, so this fitted well.”

I think our classroom community is really positive (relievers commented on the positive and friendly atmosphere) and I have noticed that the children are more confident at lunchtime (used to be some stragglers who always wanted to come sit in the classroo

Talking about reading body language was really useful and also developing the understanding that others feel the same way (empathy!) when similar things happen. “It’s nice to see the connection between respectful relationships and resilience, which is one of our school capabilities. I didn’t have time to do it all due to an unusually frantic term post lockdown. I will definitely continue with it this term, especially wellbeing ideas and Te whare Tapa Wha. Thanks so much. How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Using the kit has helped to build the sense of community and whanau amongst the students. They are more supportive of each other.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Students have built on their relationships by being more open and receptive to the needs of others which is a huge step forward for our students with autism.

This kit has been great at promoting discussion amongst students who find it difficult to talk about their feelings and to develop empathy for others. Staff also modelled how they were feeling which normalized the idea of having a bad day etc.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? We have some slightly challenging students in the class, who were possibly more affected by the lockdown than others and the kit allowed us to support them during playtime as they were never alone or feeling left out.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? As above, not only did the class return after the stress of lockdown, they also returned to a new teacher so this helped us build our classroom community for the rest of the year.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? I returned from Maternity Leave and used this kit as a great 'getting to know you' activity. I joined in as a colour and spent some ";playtime"; getting to know my students.

“Loved the sticker booklets and used them in our play based learning where chn gave a sticker to those who were playing gently and respectfully with them. Tied in nicely to Positive behaviour for learning.”

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Such a good talking point about emotions we felt during lockdown and why we felt like that. We shared lots through emails to parents so conversations happened both at school and home
